I don't care what people name their kid it can be loser pronounced Low-Zar you don't make fun of the kids name. You say what an unusual name I never heard that one. You can even say how you love when people use unusual names it makes their kid stand out. Even if you really mean OMGOD YOUR KID'S NAME IS LOSER!!
You have no idea why they picked that name. It could be their grandparent's name who died. It can be the name of something that means alot to the parent.
If the agent can't handle their self in public they shouldn't work with the public.
Largely I agree. For starters- we can argue over wether the parent “deserves to feel silly” for picking a name or not- but the kid don’t pick that name and that is their name. A person doesn’t deserve to be picked on for just existing- least of all a kid.
Now- as a parent in a given culture you SHOULD be aware that even if no one SHOULD ever make fun of someone else- I mean- as an adult if you wanted to wear a fur suit or a rubber gimp suit around or cosplay 24/7 that SHOULDN’T theoretically matter. People SHOULDN’T make fun or stare and it SHOULDN’T effect your chances at a job or service at a restaurant. But... we know it does. It will. So my conflict is with the parent. No one should harm a child either- but as a parent would most urban parents just let their kids wander around unsupervised and rely on the decency and kindness of others to protect them?
As a society we seem to be trying to move towards a less judgmental, kinder, more inclusive view on personal choices. I think that is mostly a good thing. However we aren’t there yet. Someday hopefully we won’t make fun of anyone’s name- until then if you’re a pioneer” of new or novel names- it isn’t primarily you that will face the challenges of being an early adopter as much as it is your child who will. You’re helping change society, but you’re signing them up to fight that battle before they are old enough to hold up the weight of their own head.
My maiden name is Neighbors I was asked Won't you be my neighbor? From everyone.
When I was in a college class we were asked to say something about ourselves and spell out our names on the board.
I wrote out my name with my maiden name and said my name than said "And I hate Mr. Rogers." It took everyone a split second but everyone bust out laughing.
I found no matter what your name is people will make fun of it. If you make fun of it first than you are no longer being made fun of you are in on the joke.
Loser and Neighbor are both actual words. Abcde is not a fucking word and I don't think the intent was to insult the child, but the dumbass parent. Like it or not, when it comes to applying for jobs, being called on in school, basically just being recognized, your name is going to be one of the very first impressions made, and "Abcde" is not going to come across well for anyone.. and then the nerve to get pissed over how to pronounce it? Really?
I have a hard enough time explaining why my close friends call me the nickname they do.. (it's Sluke, pronounced sluuuuuuuuuuuke)... I can't imagine the nightmare this child faces.
They didn't get pissed because they missed pronounced it the parent got angry over the fact the agent was making funny of the name. It's one thing to read a name and pronounce it wrong. It is totally different to read a name pronounce it wrong get told the correct way to pronounce it than make funny of the name.
I think Ab city like abdominal city, while unique and all I think it just sets her up to be bullied for her entire life and kids have it hard as it is I just don’t see how it’s nice to do that just to have your own way or be unique. Imagine introducing yourself to every single person and having to say
A: Hey I’m abcity
P: Uh ebsitee?
A: a-b-c-d-e
P: I’m gonna stop you right there just tell me how to spell your name.
A: Uhh but that is..
P: Nvm just write it down
And you know them bitches at the DMV are going to look at it like a practical joke and toss them out. The DMV is a pain in the ass already; goddammit, mom.
Oh I absolutely think this was a terrible choice and the mother is almost too ridiculous to breathe for naming the kid this. I remember it was something of a micro-trend a couple years ago. People were getting ticked off about getting blowback for it then too
