"Bufo surdus" - I am become deaf. Quite the ubiquitous little toad, they're found in Iran (obviously), Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. They're especially prevalent in the Kirkuk region of Iraq. So much so that US soldiers often report them hanging out in old drain pipes. (Note: Iz not spy, iz fren. No shoot plz)
My NCO told us about a firefight he was in outside Fallujah. He dove into a ditch to take cover. Returned fire, but eventually had to duck down to reload.
He says there was a frog just chilling out on the side of the ditch. Stared at the fucker for a minute before remembering to reload and get back in the fight.
Anyways, he said it was the most surreal thing to ever happen in his life.
Iirc most reptiles, including frogs and toads, do have ears. They're just not the same as ours are. For toads I think they have a membrane on the sides of their head-necks that they can hear through.
