They brought that crap to my town and I'm pissed. Higher crime, tax rates, separation between civilians, and increased drug use. I'm so glad I'm paying for it.
SO hey, I work at a deaddiction centre myself. The thing is that even though it's the taxpayers money, eventually it's actually saving you. I will let you know why.
The thing is, addicts will only indulge into theft, burglary to procur money to get the next dose of drugs. If clean, safe and easily accessible drugs are provided at some centre it only helps in reducing the number of illegal criminal actovities that are done. Though the numbers at your state may be high regarding the same but that is only because that is due to dropping off of addicts from the centres or other reasons like unemployment, not being educated, poverty, etc. Also, most of the addicts actually become addicts initially while enjoying a good social life. Hence, if needles and areas are being provided to them to inject drugs, it only saves the society from infections like HIV.
I understand that all of this seems very utopian to everyone but since I work at an institute which actually helps addict, it works.
I have seen family members come and thank the hospital staff for it when they should be thanking the fellow citizens. At the end of it though it helps you as well. So, it's like a blanket that keeps everyone warm, one way or the other. The thing is that some of the people become addicts not by using drugs as fun but by prescriptive drugs. AT the end, it's just a perspective until one themselves or a family member is on the other side of the grass.
Also, this article fails to mention that the drugs that are given in lieu only give 60- 70% of the effect given by Heroin itself. (Buprenorphine - go Google it). Also, it is much easier to taper down this medical drug as compared to Heroin itself whose dosage the individual is only going to increase. So, once an individual specific drug dosage is maintained where the individual does not have withdrawal, we slowly start tapering the drug until the individual is kept sober or total drug free. This is why the substitution is actually done - to end with a drug free individual at the end of the substitution therapy.
Anyone has any questions, I can go on and on over this, please feel free to ask.
Well, I wish we had your system then. Here you buy your drugs from a drug dealer, you go get your "party pack" as the facility named it, you grab your needle, and you go inject wherever you like. At home, alleyways, public parks, wherever is comfy. Businesses around the area have signed up security firms to protect their business, the city has created three different volunteer units to help with crime reduction....yeah my city councillors really figured out how to make this work. Top notch work.
Capitalism is... interestinf
