If a guy spends four years educating himself in a trade has his own equipment then comes to your house, does a 15 minute job, and charges you over $100 is that fair or unfair?

Depends on how much the job was worth for you and the likelihood of you being able to do it for yourself. Change a light bulb? No, not worth it. Find and fix an electrical fault that could have burned your house down? Yes, definitely worth it.

Yes, it depends entirely on what's being done.

It also depends on if someone else can do it cheaper for comparable quality

Your point isn't worth focusing on. I'm not buying an education, I'm buying a service.

So you'd hire an uneducated plumber then? Think before you speak.

If I knew he was uneducated I wouldn't hire him because I would have a decent idea that he wouldn't provide a satisfactory service. Which is what I'm purchasing. A service.
