Well it's a mix of things. People buying their products is a big one but people paying the price of the product they are having repaired to bend a single pin back in place and the company actively lying about what repairs are needed and what's wrong with the product all so people will just buy a new product instead is a big part of why they are a billion dollar company.
Apple is a master of obfuscation. They understand the principle that consumer ignorance is corporate profit.
If consumers are ignorant about Apple in 2020 then they're by and large choosing to be so. Every single person I knew who had an iPhone back as far as 2012 as soon as the phone fell, regardless of how small the drop or what it landed on (off a coffee table, onto carpet, in a case, with a screen protector was not uncommon) would end up with a smashed screen the likes of which you'd find in a nuclear holocaust for most other brands of phones.
.
They couldn't get them repaired for any worthwhile price. Apple often wouldn't honor warranties because "hur dur you dropped it."
.
Apple routinely makes their products easy to break. They routinely release new products at exorbitant prices with almost no new features. The features they ALWAYS have consist of: missing hardware/software (sold seperately for an additional arm and a leg); a complete and deliberate incompatibility with old models, forcing you to buy more wiring etc to keep up.
The other repair stuff I can see people being ignorant about (to a degree), but if you didn't let ALL the rest of those red flags tell you exactly what the company is about then I can only assume them screwing you left right and centre isn't a high prerogative on your list of concerns and idk why the rest of the corruption would surprise them at that point
its not even just a matter of all of that. they obfuscate literally as much as they are legally allowed to and have homeland security seize replacement parts being delivered to 3rd party repair business by falsely claiming them to be counterfeits with fake apple trademarks on then when they are real legitimate parts.
there is hella about apple that the public doesnt know and the vast majority of the public is ignorant of anything about basically any company that isnt directly thrown at their face by the news or the company itself.
Yes I know. Which is why I said if they're willing to let go all that Apple does out in the open (which is an INSANE amount and corrupt as hell) then they really have no reason left to be surprised when they realize Apple is just as shady behind the scenes.
.
It's not NEW. But idiots line up for days to get the next "iFuckMeOverDaddy" the moment it comes out when it's RIGHT IN THE OPEN that Apple is screwing them over.
.
There were memes for days about the stupid stand for that monitor they sold. People still bought both. There were memes and articles for days when Apple started changing all their charging ports to make sure you had to buy all new cables and couldn't use their products with any other brand People still bought them. I've had multiple people complain to me for years about being forced to use iTunes - which doesn't even work half the time and frustrates the fuck out of them. Screen breaks, throw the phone away, you're screwed.
All the signs are there and people still buy the product.
.
And all of THAT is a huge red flag.
.
People buying apple are like the people who see the "DANGER" signs at crocodile pits, and then climb the fence anyway. The barbed wire on the fence is bad. Of course what lays beyond is going to be worse. Easiest way not to face down the crocodile is to simply turn back before it gets that far
Eh? Me? I'm not angry at all haha. I think it's all stupid and Apple is a garbage company that unapologetically screws it's customer base over. But it's customer base keeps coming back with empty wallets and open arms so they must not be that worked up about it.
.
Beethoven and I seem to be making different points and I can't tell if she was ignoring/misunderstood or just missed mine in general so I was reiterating it in hopefully clearer terms

Ask me about Huawei and you'll see me get angry >.>
I mean- the truth is that in 2020 pretty much almost any large company anyone likes is just horrible. It’s that simple. IKEA, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, blah blah. We live in a world of wonder and convenience that is quite literally built on- quite literally relies on the suffering of other people. The world we know as it is and as it functions stops existing when that changes.
I’m not saying that’s a reason NOT to change things. I’m not saying that is a reason to not hold companies accountable. I’m saying that’s a very good reason to hold US accountable and be realistic. When people don’t know what is going on it is largely because they do not want to know. PETA and many vegans- what sets that in motion? Literally seeing how the steak gets to the table. People didn’t get disgusted with “McNuggets” because they are processed food or unhealthy- they saw them being made.
People just want to enjoy things and feel good for the most part. We buy electric cars to “save the planet” but what about the battery waste and the tiny child slave hands making the batteries? This is all known stuff. You just have to look. People don’t WANT to look because then they either have to change what they are doing or reconcile how a “good person” like them can justify all the horrors and wrongs that benefit them every day.
The BIGGEST hate against Apple are its rip off prices and its restrictive practices that cost YOU money or stop YOU from doing what you want- not about their factories and suicides and the consumer E waste cycle or the people in countries we dump this stuff living in toxic nightmares and using open fires without protective respirators to salvage $2 worth of heavy metals from your old android or iPhone.
People just don’t care much about what is “wrong” unless it hurts them directly and measurably- and even then not if ending that hurt involves feeling bad about ones self or having to change or give something up. Is it any clearer than the health crisis? All MOST people have to do is change a few habits and do with a little less- and we just don’t want to. More so- most people don’t want to face the uncomfortable truth.
Apples core customer doesn’t care. They just don’t care. Why would they care if apple stops people from repairing their devices if they just go to Apple or they just by a new one or they have the ability still to self remedy because they have the resources and knowledge to do so?
I recently found a deal on a Motorola e6. I went with that instead of taking my cracked iphone and going through the process of switching it to another iphone that I already owned. Switching my itunes alone was enough of a "fuck that noise", for me to go with the Motorola. I was never able to log into my itunes account I created on my first iphone, so on that second one (with the cracked screen), I could never sync the thing. Not twice in one lifetime. I'd like to open itunes one more time to remember some of the songs I've forgotten throughout the years, but ain't gonna stress over that.
I feel you. The apple migration thing is supposedly so flawless but I’ve always had trouble with it. I do some uncommon things though which probably contribute- but I also think it’s mostly because Apple builds their system like X and they only intend you to use it like X and if you do ANYTHING else than X- it isn’t going to work the way they want. For the most part they do everything in their power to stop you from doing things other than X for that very reason. Honestly I can’t blame them much for that though. The truth is the number of people who blame the system or the machine for not doing what they want... but are using the system wrong or are using the wrong machine for what they want to do... it’s staggering.
I like to read amazon reviews sometimes and technology/machine reviews from users when I need some loss of faith in humanity. Cars are one of my favorites. They are part of so many peoples day to day lives and yet... so many do t understand them- not even like on a technical nuts and bolts level- but even on a conceptual level. “I bought this base model Hyundai that is 10 years old and used and it broke- Hyundai makes terrible cars and then wouldn’t fix it for free! My neighbors brand new Mercedes which cost 16x as much is so much better and when it got a rock chip in the first week they fixed it for free! Hyundai sucks...” oh man. Solid gold.
To be clear I am not accusing you of this behavior. I’m just musing that it’s very true that Apple has these systems that I often really don’t like- and they do all they can to make sure your only option is to use their systems and learn them if you want your stuff to work.
Oh, I don't blame Apple, they gotta eat. I started with a first gen iphone and it pretty much worked flawlessly; it was fucking awesome. Come 2013, I break that, but get handed an iphone 3 or whatever number it was, and then the transfer issues began. This wasn't even me trying to put a middleman in there, this was just using a conduit between iphones without going to the "geniuses" who never fucking figured it out either... as they were on different carriers and they basically just said "fuck it, buy a new phone" and I said fuck that noise. Now, finally with a new phone, I am where I am.
summery of video off the top of my head from having watched it like a month ago, computer taken to apple, apple says it needs a 1200 dollar repair with part replacement and claims moisture sensors being pinged indicates its all broken and needs to just be replaced with a new computer.
que rossyboi looking at the computer in his office and bending a single pin back into place, fixing an inefficient rerouting of the cable that caused a loose connection, and putting the computer's panel back in place and the computer suddenly working perfectly fine. Que him also then saying he wouldnt charge anyone for bending a pin back in place.
