1882 - and meant to look old (like Culzean Castle in southern Scotland). Really close to where I live.
Legend has it, here at Drachenfels (dragon stone) Sigfried killed the dragon.
Back in my usaf days, i got to go to Germany a few times.
Every time i did, due to flight achedules and whatnot, i spent a morning in Heidelberg, and went to see the castle.
I really want to go back... That place was really neat
Heidelberg is massively famous among the Ramstein- and Baumholder-stationed folks.
The castle indeed is stunningly beautiful, sitting on top of the town.
If you ever go back and you want to see other castles, let me know, there are dozens of really neat places around that area.
