When I was about 12 and my 2 yrs younger brother was (of course) 10, we would ride our bikes all over the neighborhood.
One day as we were turning a corner he got WAY to close to me as we turned and I was already hugging the curb. So we collided and our two bikes tangled as we both hit the curb hard. Skinned knees and palms, scraped up chins, and all sorts of bruises. We both just sat there crying and cussing for a good solid hour. Than we finally calmed down and went home after we untangled our bikes. To this day he clams it was my fault.
We didn’t have any protective gear in fact be didn’t even have shoes. We both wearing summer clothes short sleeves and shorts. We took our beating than got up and went home. Truth is I know my nieces and nephews and each one would sit there and cry like we did but would wait till someone comes gets them. My kid though I have seen her get hurt than pop up like she never fell in the first place.
Once when I was learning my sister told me "turn" and with my blinded trust, I turned right away as a reflex. I mean I had seen the curb a few meters away but it was really a reflex, she said turn, I turned without thinking. So I fell and was a bit shaken smh, my sister had to actually tell me to stand up, look at my shoes and then step out of the nettle-filled water hole I had fallen in. I had white bumps from the nettles all over my ankles, I was soaking wet, even my underpants were dripping.
But I was a pretty solid child! I also used to nap on the road (very little village, no one was passing there except tractors, and you can feel those come from very far away. Don't do that kids, it's dangerous and stupid.) and I never broke a bone. My joints dislocated a lot spontaneously though.
