It was shortly after the amazon acquire so apparently things used to be “more chill” before I started working there but management became more strict about appearances and attitude and pushing the Amazon agenda. They were also really freakin weird, if Whole Foods wasn’t your be all end all you were seen as “not devoted”. So if you wanted more for yourself and didn’t want to be promoted to management you were seen as stupid. I was a student and told them that right off the get-go that it was my main motivation to be a student first as I was trying to transfer to the #1 school in the nation. They really didn’t give a crap and management thought I was a slacker because Whole Foods wasn’t my life, school was. Anyways, I quit after they started scheduling me during classes after I repeatedly went to management about it. I’m now about to graduate from said #1 school with a 4.0! So Whole Foods can kiss my butt because there’s better things in store for me than working at a grocery store
Thank you! I think it was also my store that was really weird, I dated someone from there that worked at other Whole Foods locations and said that he never encountered a weirder one than ours. Because honestly, Whole Foods had some really great programs that I was looking forward to and I wanted to stay there a long time but I wouldn’t sacrifice my future for some extra cash. I was in a lucky enough position to chose between these two worlds so I chose to focus on my scholarship which has really paid off. But they have amazing retirement, insurance, and scholarships for students. My location never gave me the opportunity to benefit from those programs
Ok. But... counter point: “Thank you” is a better gift than nothing? Like- if you save my dogs life- do I owe you anything? Would you expect money? And say I had nothing to give you- or I just wasn’t going to give you anything... if I just look at you, look at the dog, and walk away- isn’t that a bigger dick move than not even saying thank you?
Also worth noting, why raise wages and benefits if much of the country is unemployed? A lot of kids in my sister's school have a lot of free time and are just itching to jump into the job market, nevermind the recently unemployed.
I guess they could hang a sign saying “no appreciation needed- these people are just doing their jobs, and even before the current unemployment rate we could probably find someone else pretty quickly to fill the slot if it wasn’t this guy...” but that seems rude and a bit cruel. But- perhaps they genuinely do appreciate their workers- and appreciation doesn’t always come with cash? Perhaps they at least acknowledge management wouldn’t want to switch places with those guys- and they are glad there’s someone to do the job that isn’t them.
But then.... if that makes Whole Foods or whatever company jerks... what’s that make the rest of us? Income subsidies, teachers salary, soldiers and police... our bleeding hearts go out to them- but... all we have to do is vote to pay more taxes and WE could take care of them. Or how about this- when’s the last time you slipped your kids teacher a hundo or tipped the cashier or the kid helping you find the toothpaste? A nice juicy tip? Probably not recently if ever. So I mean... we thank these people and then do what? Hang a sign in the internet saying “way to go” instead of giving them money don’t we?
And that is without even mentioning the space labor that makes all your cool toys and cheap amazon buys. When you bought those $20 pants or that $5 belt... did you think that was made by someone making $15+ an hour? Did you think the clerk at the store in the mall selling $40 dresses for 70% 9 months out of the year- was making $54k a year? I don’t think you did. I think you knew. I think you shop there BECAUSE you can get $20 pants- and if they had similar pants for $100 and paid everyone there as much or more than middle class living- you wouldn’t shop there.
I don’t know who the f “guest_” is, but I’ve seen those exact responses on another Whole Foods post. If you’re post BS propaganda, at least be an actual guest instead of trying to look like a guest. F Whole Foods and F their BS!!!
Lmao. I never thought it would end like this. Outed as a bot created by Whole Foods. For the record, I do not shop at Whole Foods, and I wouldn’t care much if they went out of business. I’ve shipped their before with a girlfriend of mine who for whatever reason- bought in somehow to the image that food from Whole Foods is somehow better than any other food from wherever else. I will acknowledge that as as grocery store they carry many items and brands not found at other stores- if a certain person is particular- but I rarely eat at home, and when I do there is a local family owned market and butcher I like to use, and for everything else there is Safeway, Target, or whatever convenience store.
They're minimum wage is $15 for all positions and they have been paying an extra $2 per hour hazard pay for all employees working during covid. They also give raises multiple times per year. They actually do right by their workers in the philly/delco area.
And the best part is this guest won’t even come back to see it
