There was a house built using shipping containers on Grand Designs and it was a nightmare because once you start cutting them to put things like windows in they lose all their structural integrity. It looked amazing once it was done though.
That being said, it means a tremendous loss of living space, as you of course wanna install the insulation inside, so everyone can still see it's made from a container.
Possibly suitable in areas with 20°C all year, but where I live, you better have 15cm insulation in all directions minimum if you want to survive both winter and summer.
I wouldn't wanna live in a "house" where everything between the outside temperatures and me is a few mm of steel.
