Certain masks and face shields work in theory. In practice, people do not have the proper materials, training, or discipline for them to be anything but counterproductive.
Case in point, while I have nothing against the recent protests happening this month and the last, it doesn't matter if you're wearing a surgical mask designed to stop bacteria (and not viral particles), and much less if you don't space out like the media has been railing on since they decided to pay attention, resulting in a rise in cases across the board.
I mean- the idea of masks was to mitigate the potential spread while people engaged in essential activities. The “safest” way would be to ban ALL leaving the house period- but given that they knew that would cause all sorts of logistical problems and likely cause the same folks making a stink about some restrictions to go ape shit- they allowed “essential activities” and added the masks to reduce the danger. The way many people use them and the masks they use may do little to nothing- but mandating a certain type of mask is not practical- and we already saw an N95 shortage. If they were REQUIRED that would be worse. So this is a sort of compromise to try and do the most to fight the spread while allowing people some freedom.
So you wish me dead?
I am a high risk person.
I have lung problems which make me very prone to infection and lung related illness’s.
Masks though not as effective as everyone staying home do help.
Even if they helped 0.01% I would rather have people wear them than them not have them.
From day one I been only going out when needing to and wearing masks at all times.
I care “hand sauce” lol as my husband calls it. I carry Clorox wipes to clean everything and baby wipes to clean my face.
My husband comes home from work and takes a shower before I even seen him.
He wears both goggles and a mask to protect himself so I am protected.
But you are saying let’s just get rid of them because all they are is counterproductive.
I stay home because there are idiots who think risking their life is only risking their life.
When you risk your life in that way you are risking every single person who goes behind you where you been. You are risking people like me and our life’s.
No. I'm saying "let people weigh the risks for themselves". -famousone 2020
But if your husband doesn't properly wear, maintain, and clean his equipment then he is putting you at greater risk than if he went without. Statistically speaking, most people aren't properly wearing, maintaining, and cleaning anything.
You risk your life everytime you get behind a steering wheel, take a bite of food, or roll out of bed.
Assess for yourself what is and isn't worth the risks. Decide for yourself what measures, preventative, responsive, or otherwise your particular situation necessitates.
Everyone in his store has to wear the equipment properly or they are fined. They had a nurse come in and show everyone how to do it. Also they don’t need to clean them they are toss after one use. They have a hazardous material box at the store which they dispose properly the mask and goggles.
His company takes great links to insure their employees are well taken care of.
His boss was even kind enough to give my husband extra of the mask so I may use them when I go out.
What you need to understand is what others do is their own problem but what they do to others is on the others.
You may feel fine drinking a few beers and getting behind the wheel but everyone else is safer if you get an Uber.
Just like you may think you will be fine with out a mask but you are putting others in danger. So put on the mask.
Your husband's shop has things locked down. They are the exception. I for one will not mask up when I'm on my morning jog, in my own damn car, or when the people around me don't give a damn.
And what will you say when the people around you get sick?
Sorry but it is my right to not wear a mask see yah in heaven, peace!
Your car is one thing but people around you is a totally different topic.
Just like getting pregnant it only takes one time and you are sick. It takes a long time before people know they are sick. So while you parade yourself in the sea of mask less people you think none of them are coughing I’m fine. But truth is any one of them could be infected.
You going around without a mask makes you a carrier dropping the virus like the yellow dressed girl sprinkling salt.
You put people like me in high risk. As well as elderly and children. Plus people who have weakened Immune system’s due to cancer and other fatal diseases.
And before you say well they should stay at home you forget about the people who look after them risking their life’s for those people. You get them sick and it is like you signed the others death Warrant your self.
It’s not that hard to understand you don’t want to wear a mask to save your life that is fine but you need to wear a mask for the other people in this world who do want to live.
If they are sick wearing a an old shirt over my face won't save me. If I am sick, wearing and old shirt over my face won't save anyone else. Actually, it would become a breeding ground for all kinds of diseases and the end result would only make me more infectious. I know this for a fact.
Really you know it for a fact?
Do you also know that less of your bacteria will be spread than if you had nothing at all?
And what you really are saying here is you rather see everyone else be sick as well if you get sick.
You are saying that why should you only get sick?
Also if you wear an old t-shirt as a mask you might want to look into getting something better.
Maybe the problem isn’t in that you feel you have a right to go with out a mask but that you feel if you do get the virus you have a right to infect everyone you can before you die.
I mean why bother with a mask when you already have the virus is pretty much what you are saying and if that is true than what you are really saying is why should you suffer the fate alone when you can infect more?
Not at all. Can you tell Covid from the flu at a glance? I can't. Half the poor fuckers in the quarantine barracks had head colds. Before we panicked and shoved them into a "sterile" environment at least.
This panic, the extreme rhetoric, the feel good knee jerk reaction, it's all hurting far more people than an actual measured and common sense response to ILLNESS IN GENERAL would not be counterproductive, but actually beneficial. Too bad we fucked it up.
You know what I said my peace and you said yours.
I consider you a friend on here so I am dropping this argument. To make sure our friendship does not break over this.
I feel myself getting heated up over it and it is obvious you stand firm as do I.
So I will cal this a draw.
We both neither won or lost we just agree to disagree and I suggest we drop the matter and leave it here on this post.
I hope you agree.
@famousone- people should be able to make their own choice. Bicycle or motorcycle without a helmet, without gear? You looked at the risks and decided what works for you. Want to smoke? That’s your choice. As a grown up we can asses and decide what risks we want to take for ourselves. But wearing a mask isn’t about risk to yourself. It is primarily about risk to others. Smoking wasn’t banned in schools or day cares or bars or public venues because society said smokers couldn’t choose for themselves. It was banned because someone else didn’t agree to take the risk you are, and we share public spaces.
You can say we all decide to take risks when we leave the house (true) but that counter is bullshit- we know there are risks but we have laws to mitigate them. You COULD get raped leaving your house- but it’s illegal- it’s a risk that we say isn’t part of just goin about your day unless someone breaks the rules- then we remove them from society because they can’t be around others. Forcing people to wear masks in public isn’t so different from forcing them to wear clothes or to not shit in the street.
There are laws against maliciously infecting others. Can't really account for regular infection, though. The measures as the masses are taking them, are bandaid at best, and harmful at worst. Mostly, it's a false sense of security and yet another wedge against individual autonomy. I'll take a clothing optional society over one that steals from, batters, or murders people for not wearing safety glasses (which honestly probably would be more effective than the current mask policy).
Well... the “laws” on malicious infection vary from place to place- but most smokers aren’t maliciously giving you cancer are? They are just exercising autonomy and having a smoke while they wait in line or eat. The guy who shits in the street probably doesn’t want you to maliciously catch a disease- he just wants to shit and that was as convenient a spot as any. Society is the aggregate of individuals living together. It by definition requires some measure of order. Some basic ones necessary for a continued society are that malicious or not- behaviors that put others at risk aren’t your own business.
