It's the law in Churchill, Manitoba that you can't lock your vehicle so if someone is being hunted by a polar bear, they can at least have some place to try and hide/protect themselves.

i know of places it's a courtesy, never knew some places made it a law

It's my understanding that it was a courtesy but tourists forced it to become a law so they wouldn't lock their doors

Do NOT lay down in front of a grizzly/brown bear. All you're doing is serving yourself up on a platter if it's hungry.

It depends on the situation. If you can, back off, obviously, but if you MUST get down, get in the fetal position and protect your neck... because you are gonna get thrashed.
