Just like "nerd" has lost most of its negative connotations by today, "otaku" too has become much less stigmatised in recent years.
I'd rather go by "moe otaku" than the actually hurtful alternative "moe buta" (=moe pig) or the too weak alternative "moe-suki" (=likes moe).
otaku as a culture is still stigmatized a bit in japan. People still have an idea of what they assume someone that enjoys anime looks like, the same way that many people in the english speaking west have an idea of someone thats knowledgeable about how computers work or someone that watches american cartoons like simpsons or futurama.
If you look closely to my comment, I said "much less stigmatised" and not "no longer stigmatised".
I've gotten my fair share of disapproving looks while living 9 years in Japan for being otaku, but I don't seem how not using the word is going to help us getting less stigmatised.
You're confusing fans with SJWs.
.
You're also confusing "womens rights" with "anyone we disagree with's rights" - which usually end up being men, weirdly enough.
.
I also don't know where the minorities part comes in.
.
Anime characters are usually Japanese, or races that don't exist. Though Japanese are Asians, so by that standard they actually ARE technically in the majority, which would imply other races (including white) would all be the minority.
.
Either way: you're not only wrong, you're abysmally misinformed.
animes with the plot is basically a neet magically haves super power and get a harem of shameless, low-esteem womens (inclues ones that look and acts like 8 years old)
and in spite of the facts that it got nothing but fan service, it sells.
you think they care about rights?
the first step is to care, to give a damn.
they don't.
Eh, in my experience western media is the same, and ratings aren't reliable anymore. Fuck, child strippers is up for an Academy award this year.
.
There's always a huge amount of filtering to get through to find anything worth watching. some anime start with a ridiculous amount of fan-service before they actually remember they have a story, but that story may still be worth telling
.
Some are just porn with vague amounts of plot lol
Lol I honestly didn't used to give that much of a shit until people started trying to absolutely destroy the entire medium, and force their politics into it.
.
If someone wants an anime where 5 women with giant tits worship some random dork.... Who cares? Don't watch it. It wasn't made with you in mind.
It means “nerd” and in the “90’s American high school” way. Not good.

Also, fun fact: reverse-harems are far from an uncommon thing. As is male fan-service.
i actually hard watch that types but they're everywhere, flooding! with high rating too! heck
