Or there's the third kind that just lays up there people watching, like a friendly jaguar.

Those things hanging down remind me of the one kind of enemy from Half Life where there was a tentacle hanging down and if you bumped into it, it grabbed you and pulled you up into the maw of a carnivorous plant-looking thing.
