I haven't watched DN in a few years (esp the second half) so it's possible I've forgotten stuff, but from what I remember Misa isn't much of a character lol.
She's largely unintelligent, and her main contributions to the plot are being:
1)attractive
2)being an obnoxious, obsessive, spoiled brat
`
Power 1 is what causes Jelos(sp?) And, by extension, Rem to become invested in Misa - and their obsession and actions make plot happen.
`
Power 2 leads to her more showcasing her own uselessness as she dedicates everything she has and kills several people for the exclusively people of making sempai notice her.
`
Light is able to use her insanity to distract L for a time, but by and large that's it. She continues and accomplishes almost nothing on her own, and, with the exception of being a motivation for Rem, the story would have likely carried on just as well.
`
If she'd been a more developed character the story likely would have only benefited
That's quite a dig. I'm not gonna do a counterpoint essay defending her, because she's far from my favorite character, and you are mostly right.
*
I do still think she serves an additional purpose other than just being eye candy. Hers is the cautionary tale of a victim of manipulation. But hey, that may just be my reading.
Haha well that's another thing to me.
`
I mean, she went into this actively trying to get the attention of a serial killer
`
She sold half her life away before she'd even met Light specifically so she could stalk him
`
She emotionally manipulated Rem into helping her, AND ignored Rem's warnings about how untrustworthy Light was
`
She casually made it extremely apparent that she had the ability to destroy everything Light was working towards - a man she knew was killing people for the crimes of not existing to his standards -AND she additionally made it apparent (from what I remember) that she would be unhappy if she didn't get what she wanted
`
`
After all that I don't think she gets to play the victim card. She joined a game of Russian roulette armed with a fully loaded bazooka, and was surprised when she got shot
So don't read it? Seems a simple enough solution
`
I was addressing the concept you brought up. Typically in my neck of the woods tthat's the way dialogue works - One person makes a point, another person responds.
That's wasn't a reproach. (Not everyone's out to attack you.) I was just pointing out that you made a pretty complex analysis for a character you claimed to be very simplistic. Also, do you write replies expecting people not to read them?
What what?
`
I never said everyone was out to attack me? I never actually said you HAD attacked me?
`
It was more an analysis of all the ways she ISN'T a functional or complex character.
`
I write replies expecting nothing at all? Beyond the hope that whoever responds to them will have some manner of basic literacy and logical thought process, but this IS the internet so I've learned to accept disappointment on that front lol
And just like that I've forgotten the name of almost every anime I've ever seen.
`
`
Fullmetal Alchemist?
`
Parasyte?
`
Your lie in April?
`
Wolf's rain? (haven't seen it in a long time, but I don't remember any fetishes)
`
Gargantia on the verduous planet? (Has women in bikinis and dancing, but I'd hardly call that a weird fetish)
The corset scene definitely caught me off guard haha
`
There's also the scene with the angel person that has some pretty innuendo filled subtitles from what I remember
Aaah yes, and I'd forgotten the scene when Claude takes a sword from Anna's throat.
The anime was laced with fanservice.
I was going to say that except the asthma attack, the manga was free but then I remembered the whole school ark with Sebastian dressed as a teacher and the students calling each other fags and serving each other, so maybe I'm just super oblivious sometimes.
Lol I guess after a time we just learn to accept or block out those scenes when they're largely irrelevant to the plot haha
`
I never read the manga, I just remember watching the anime and suddenly the corset scene came on and I was like "WTF is HAPPENING" and I really should know better :P
