I like to watch the dub with the subs and see what got translated differently. …. After I watch the dub by itself, I ain’t wasting plot time picking up linguistic foibles.

It's also a bit more than just being translated differently, they have to edit the lines to fit with the amount of time the character is talking

That’s true, but the standouts are cases like - not a dialogue line, but the opening theme to Rurouni Kenshin. The line in English is “all the memories I have are beautiful in my mind / but they don’t feed the hunger deep inside my soul” but the sub gets translated to something like “my memories of us are beautiful / but they will not fill the hunger in my belly,” which is… a drastically different meaning.

I love to watch the difference too. I know the fun had to mean the same thing and match the speaking, but I like to see the difference.

What if turning on close caption activates the original dialect and text, but turning off activates the dub language ?
