Caught him perjuring himself repeatedly, got him admitting that Kyle only fired when the guy got within 3 feet of him with a loaded gun pointed at him [and that this could be seen as a threat], that he was affiliated with some of the groups protesting that night (can't remember if they're AnTiFa or who), and a myriad other things

This case never should have gone to trial, and humiliation is just the tip of the iceberg these people deserve
They are still going to do everything in their power to nail his ass with a misdemeanor for carrying that rifle. But he clearly wasn't looking for trouble and chasing down an armed guy who is already retreating is never a wise idea. So murder is basically out the door.
Kyle was assaulted by three predators and criminals who thought they could get away with killing a kid. Seeing it as Kyle looking for people to shoot is a dishonest narrative and this case has thankfully shone sunlight on that falsehood.

The assailants gave Chase. Repeatedly. With their own weapons. Kyle was walking away from them and one of them began firing their gun in the air at one point.

This last guy in particular attempted to pretend he was not going to hurt him. He approached Kyle with his hands in the air. And in the guy's own words: it wasn't until he was within 3 feet of Kyle, stepping toward in him a manner he agreed was threatening, with a loaded gun pointed at Kyle that Kyle shot.

And Kyle didn't even try to kill him. He shot him in the arm.
All this WHILE Kyle was trying to get to the police. And Kyle told them all repeatedly that's where he was going.
