We all get to choose how we live our lives. It sounds like you're just not happy with the amount of work it will take to get there.

Very, very few people get to do what I just described and make a living out of it. Most of those have old money backing them up. I'm a good photographer, a proficient bass guitar player and a moderate singer. But without a fund of about 200,000 euro, I'd never quit my middle-income day job.
Sounds like selection bias, most people I know who are actually rich still enjoy work, their hobbies are just next level and are not usually "art", unless one is really willing to stretch the meaning of the word to the snapping point.
It appears people confuse 'rights' with envy. The idea that everyone should get to live whatever lifestyle they want, just because they want it is obsurde. They better settle in on the idea that their life outcome depends mostly on them or life is going to be pretty tough.
The ones you hear about do. I figure most people who have economic freedom pursue whatever passions they have. I know of several well off people who couldn't care less about art but have a myriad of atvs, boats or other outdoor vehicles.

There are some very real applications for art majors; it's just you aren't creating art for yourself, you're doing it under strict orders of a company, which sucks balls.
