Contrary to popular belief, only a few people have died due to the venom from a blue ring octopus. The venom itself isn't lethal, instead it causes paralysis of all conscious muscles, and the main cause of death itself is drowning. CPR, and timely medical attention usually saves the lives of those bitten.
