i know this is going to sound like bullshit but something similar happened to me when i was 10. invited the whole class to the local arcade/jungle gym/fun place thing, and two kids showed up and each brought the same gift (bionicles, different ones, so i wasn’t even mad about that). after that i didn’t want birthday parties. truth was i never really cared much about the rest of the class, and it was softened by the two kids that did come, who were my best friends at that point, but i was heartbroken. i’ve kept it small since, and it’s been almost 20 years.

Happened to my 16th as well. Invited my friends and we had platters and an assortment of beers and other drinks. Nobody came until I asked where everyone was then one girl and her boyfriend drove 30 mins to pop by. It fucking sucks mate. Sending hugs.

If our two peeps didn't come we'd probably hate the world more than we do.

see i did all family with one friend, got blind drunk, and can’t remember about 5 hours of it. i wasn’t sad or anything; i planned for it, i had never been drunk before and thought “go big or go home” near enough to alcohol poisoning (took it a little too far), with those same friend and family stopping me before i got too bad. good times!

When I was in fourth grade my parents invited everyone, fucking everyone from my grade, and set up a huge party. My teachers came and that was it. I got a book from one of my teachers about animals that is still somewhere in my parent's attic. The hardest part was when we just gave up and went inside to open my family gifts. It felt so fucking pathetic. My parents just sort of hung out with the teachers the whole time, so I never really saw any reaction to the situation. To this day I just try to let my birthday pass in silence, and whenever anyone tries to do anything to mark the occasion, I know they aren't but I just feel like they're trying to make me not feel pathetic.
