None. I have no reason to download a movie like this. I Can download from a streaming service if I need to view off network, but the rest of the time I’ll just buy the DVD or stream it.
Lol. If we lived close enough and knew each other offline I’d let you borrow DVD’s. Sharing media is one way to manage without spending much money. People do of course share streaming services, between family and exes I only pay for one service.
When home movie were much more expensive and the VCR wasn’t ubiquitous yet, I knew someone with a VCR and cable who recorded films off cable and I could watch their collection.
Public libraries also often have films and television shows for borrowing, and some people even copy them before returning them.
Nowadays DVD are often so cheap- a few dollars each or even $5 or less for 3-5 well known films.
One strategy that has always worked well for me with games and media is to not have to be first to the table. If you haven’t seen a film it is new to you even years after it comes out. If you make it to PS4 generation playing a PS2, when PS5 comes out, a 3 or 4 will be very cheap and offer what to you are much improved graphics and new games
So I mean, there are lots of ways to watch movies and shows for little or no money, especially with patience. There are also “gray market” streamers for the Tv where you can watch streaming service exclusive shows or even new release movies- sometimes before they come out through their legitimate channels. I’m not saying I advocate such methods, but there are lots of options. To the point that if I want to own a movie it is generally cheap enough to buy it- and that ignores all the places in the world where bootleg DVD and such can be had- but if I don’t want to own it and just want to watch it- I don’t see a point in downloading it.
Not only from a practical standpoint of why? But from a standpoint of- of one chooses a gray or clearly black method to consume media, why fill the dice, even if a small chance, on that liability?
Streaming CAN carry liability- but in general there are ways to gray or black market media that don’t leave the same clear and generally unambiguous trail of evidence were someone to bring legal action, and ways which generally don’t carry the risks to data security etc. of a download. Now, people have their preferences and circumstances so I’m not criticizing those who
Download movies- but for me, and probably a large number of people, especially people outside a certain demographic of age as this meme eludes to, there isn’t really a reason or need to go to some rando ware site and download a film this way. It is like teasing a 20 year old for not knowing pager code or how to work a dial up modem-
Why would 99% of people alive today need to know or want to use something that has no real use to them which something more common doesn’t do better? Same deal.
