I couldn't take this post seriously because all I could think of was the fucking Die Antwoord videos with this chick and I'm dying, They're so freaking funny XD Go watch "I fink u freeky" and you will understand
You are running down the forest, being chased down by this creature. You trip on a root and you think it is over. The creature slowly creeps up on you and your life flashes before your eyes and all you hear is "Throw dem devilish gang signs in the air!"
I´m truly sorry to ruin the fun, but it´s simply fear of illness and disorders. pale+sunken eyes+elongated faces=beware! this person is sick, stay away!
Yeah, stuff like this is just an extension of body horror. We have a primal fear not of the creature specifically described, but of humanoid things that clearly aren't healthy humans. This face evokes sickness, mutilation, and the frightening distortion of the familiar, not some ancient superpredator from our collective unconscious.
It's the same reason so many people are freaked out by clowns; the parts of our brains that deal with processing human faces are very sensitive to abnormalities like the ones clown makeup creates, so they don't sit well with us.
There's actually some more science to back that up in the modern day.
Kind of like how you like to see yourself in the mirror, rather than pictures, is because you're used to the reversed image in the mirror. So your normal face looks right, but not QUITE right as we are not symmetrical.
Also, if anyone has seen them, those human looking robots they're coming out with. They look real, but not quite right.
Nothing. It's just unnatural and that is what we fear. We'd just as much fear a red-skinned being with white eyes. Some people even used to fear people of a different race because they've never seen such a person before and thus thought that they're unnatural. That's how racism began, from fear. Every xenophobia begins with fear.
Pale skin is a sign of being diseased, dead, or nearly there. Wolves and other canine-Like animals have large pupils that cover most of their eyeballs. Animals like Gorillas, Tigers, etc. have deep-set eyes, protected by their brow and cheek bones. Most carnivores big enough to harm an able-bodied human have large sharp teeth.
Humans fear things that are different. When black children in Africa see white people for the first time, they are often scared. The same occurs for white children who have never seen black people. There wasn't some ancient race terrorizing humans, Humanity just has an innate fear of what is different.
Me reading: oh, OK, yeah, makes sense, oh GOD MOTHER FUCK!!!
