Actually, E for Excellence! At least as far as I know, E is skipped in the standard grading scale because teachers worried parents would get confused and think E stood for Excellent, leading them to believe their child was doing far better in school than they actually were.
Funny story about this. We have the 'E' grading at our school (instead of 'F') and one year they actually changed it so 'E' would mean excellent and all these parents were freaking the fuck out as to why their kid failed half their classes just because they were too stupid to read that 'E' meant excellent.
I'm with ya here. It's faster and prettier (I mean, it probably has something to do with being put in catholic school from daycare to eighth grade, too)
It's called a pair of pants because there used to be two seperate pieces that you zip together

7) Actually comes from students and parents thinking "E" stood for excellence
8) not certain, but pretty sure it has to do with the origin of the word "pants"
9) I think by "moaning" you mean yawning, which again its just a natural thing
