Or, there is actually a God and we keep changing the context around them to suit our understanding. The belief in a higher power has been with Humanity since our existence and we have over 3000 variations of it. Why on earth would we put so much effort into making up a fairy tale? It doesn't make sense to me.
I get your point and i dont want to be rude. But i would like to point out that we shouldnt have to hide it. We shouldnt bring it up every second and try to shove it down peoples throats, but we shouldnt have to hide our beliefs because someone else doesnt agree
I'm not saying to hide them exactly I'm just saying that it should be left in the church/temple or home not the workplace or store or public in general and really shouldn't be discussed with others unless they ask and should always be respected. I for one don't care about any other beliefs but my own which I keep to myself because to most core religions it offends the 'rules' for example I work on sundays and eat pork I also swear which pretty much means 'hellbound' in at least three religions.
I have had many mature and calm conversations about my religion with friends. And i brought it up. But we talked about it and tried to understand the other persons point of view better, and actually became closer people. I was just trying for them to see my point if view and it worked. I didnt brainwash them or attack them.
It's not even about which one is real. Like, a little tribe in the middle of Africa could have it right, or atheism, or the Old Norse religion, but Christianity is still the most widespread religion because it's just more popular.
Why the 3 biggest religions in the world believe in a common God, by isuckateverything: What makes God/Allah/Yaweh (All names that translate to each other) different from Hades/Zues/Posiden? Simple, simply look at the beings themselves. People like to say religion is just a method of explaining why things happened and that now we have science for such, but you're wrong. Your right when it comes to gods like Zues etc, because those gods were made for single pirposes, people believed they NEEDED zues otherwise there would be no lightning or the egyptians believed they NEEDED Ra or the sun would no longer be there. Where as Allah/God/Yaweh was not made for a single purpose, not to explaib why such happened, you can see that in the Torahs and Bibles and Korans. The books hardly touches on creation and it's purpose but more on God's/Allah's/Yaweh's message for their most intellegent creations. Telling of God's/Yawe's/Allah's great power and our great power.
They're different because as we learn more about how things actually work and find no evidence of divinity in them the role of divine beings becomes less and less, so as the gaps in knowledge shrink the roles of gods shrink to fit them.
Yes it does. In the past the Gods created everything and controlled various phenomena beyond human control. Now God created everything and isn't directly active in anything. He doesn't hurl lightning bolts, he just created the clouds that discharge them. He doesn't ensure a bountiful harvest, he just created the weather that allows for it. His role is much more in the background that old pagan gods.
(To the tune of "Please Christmas don't be late") Hate post, hate post time is here. Time for rude and time for arguing. Your arguments good and his is bad. Hurry hate post, hurry fast.
"Religion is like a penis: it's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and PLEASE don't try and shove it down my children's throats."
Well no, he doesn't really have a point. If any of the religions are real, only that one can be real. They each exclusively rule out the other religions. If you decide that you believe god or gods exist, then you gotta figure out which religion is true, because it can't be all of them.
Explain. Because the way I see it, if a god or multiple gods exist, then he/they wouldn't be creating 3000 different religions and saying in each one that only that one was true. It's simply a logical argument, and I'm not sure where I am shooting myself in the foot, but I'd genuinely like to know if you're seeing something I'm missing.
So? We used to believe the sun revolves around the earth. Just because something came first doesn't make it true, mankind is always reforming past ideas.
"They each exclusively rule out the other religions."
No they don't. Even the current Abrahamic religions don't really exclusively rule each other out.
