He's not the first to wear a mask without a purpose (Revan), but I believe his particular reason for it is because he wants to be as much like Vader as possible. Also, the mask makes him seem less human, and combined with his powers, makes him much more terrifying.
My main question is why would he ever remove his hood while still wearing his mask? He looks like a freaking bobble head with his hood down but his helmet still on.
Between a way to continue the etiologies of the franchise, a way to capitalize off of another generations' worth of sales, a way to idolize his predecessor, and a way to create a sense of personal anonymity within the ranks of the first order not only to instill fear based from the lack of emotion but to fit into the anonymity given similarly by the masks of the stormtroopers. And if you're going to say its useless for Kylo Ren to wear a mask for the same reason as the troopers because everyone knows its him, you're right they know but Kylo Ren was also aware of the individual personalities and actions of at least some of the troopers making them equally known in this sense. Its more of a way to distance oneself from his subordinates or superiors especially in a militaristic sense.

Sorry. In my defense I don't think "Ooh. No one's been here in two years. Wouldn't it just be scandelous that I comment?!" I think "Oh that post was funny and I have an opinion/ something I want to comment on/about on it. If it's bannable or frowned upon I personally think that's idiotic
I dunno. I suppose it's not so much an issue on here, but on forums, topics die for a reason, especially if that topics been gone for more than a month.
But this isn't a forum or an old topic - just a place for fun posts. People can join whenever they like and browse everything regardless of how old it is. There is even a button that will give you a random post! Let people post I say!
