well some prisons allow families of inmates to deposit money into an account in the inmate's name. The inmate can either save the money or use it to buy small luxuries from a store they typically have on prison grounds. Or at least that's how the prison we took a field trip to was set up. Most prisoners had money coming in from families but not all of them.
But to go along with the free lunches for kids, the school system I went to had free and reduced lunches and breakfasts for kids who came from lower income families. A lot of my friends had free and reduced lunch actually. And also the same people that qualified for free and reduced lunch could also take the ACT for free.
prison labor is actually a pretty popular thing in prisons. Big companies hire prisons at cheaper wages to do the same work anyone else could. we studied it last semester in my CRJ class. One of the companies listed was Honda and even Victoria's Secret.
Oh.So you're telling me,some inmate fondles people's panties?Who thought that would be a great idea?'Oh,hey, have some hand made undergarments that were fondled, and made by some desperate prisoners.'
In prisons if they work they're probably making around 5 cents an hour and most probably don't have family with the means to regularly send money. But I've always been to a school where if your family was poor you got free lunch. And it's kind of fucked how some schools have bigger budgets than prisons when they're supposed to care for them 24/7 rather than 6-8 hours five days a week. Sure they're criminals but it's still fucked.
