Nope I'm not lookin for feminism 'cause feminism makes it sound like it's just for females but they want equality for everyone. So the word should be equalism so it's equality for everyone not just females
Oh for god's sake, here we go again. It's called feminism for historical reasons. The movement began with people pushing for female suffrage (aka the feminine vote...Hence, feminism) and since it's the same damn movement, the name hasn't changed. This is the same as many, many organizations. The Republican Party promotes democracy and the Democrats and all other American political parties operate in a republic. AT&T stands for American Telephone and Telegraph, though it's a multinational company and telegraphs are obsolete. But no one wants them to change it to "MT" or something, or force political parties to rename themselves in accordance with their current platforms.
Agree, calling it "Feminism", although is good, still sounds sexiest, we must change the name. For a long time I did not support it because I thought it means making females better than male.
Here's the problem with calling it egalitarianism: There are events just for girls, like an engineering day at the near ups college's engineering school, or a girls in flight program at the air field. There are no equivalent boys programs.
I see that at a large shopping site online that it's possible to direct your business to women-owned companies. My boss hired a woman and was really pleased because it let him check off a box on *his* review that he was promoting "diversity." There are countless examples of giving girls and women some advantage, but now we're at the point where 51% of college degrees are awarded to women. So why are we still giving advantages to "level, the playing field?"
What's wanted now is not equality but privilege. Is everything now fair? Of course not. But all this pushing advantages for people with XX chromosomes is nothing more than bias and it always goes one way. But you can't advance equality with inequality. So, be honest about desiring privilege.
Oh look, someone's trying to hide behind the definition of feminism again.
Look, most dictionaries try to be neutral with their definitions, so it happens that definitions for communism, fascism, nazism, and even feminism seem neutral (depends upon the dictionary though). So telling us the definition of feminism while we all know what it has become with their mansplaining and manspreading and absolutely not caring about countries where women are actually oppressed will not work.
I'm all for 1st and 2nd wave feminism. 3rd wave is just crap.
I would venture to say that 3rd wave "feminism" isn't feminism at all, based on the definition provided. Feminism is a fight for equality, not a fight for power over one another. I would also venture to say that those that do not advocate for women's rights in other countries, but advocate for the rights of women in America are very biased and must have a hard time grasping that people exist outside of their personal lives. With that being said, I do not support 3rd wave "feminism" in any way.
Oh good, I applaud your common sense which is so rare nowadays. Anyway the problem is, there are more 3rd wave power-seeking feminists than people who call themselves feminists and actually just believe in equality, so more people associate the term with those feminazis. I prefer the term egalitarian because it grasps the spirit of the original feminism better than today's feminism.
