You absolutely CAN do both, but it requires prioritization. Not only should we place a priority on our own first, regarding vets as this post does, the situation of our VA hospitals has been absolutely atrocious, with no accountability from this administration.
Many come home with PTSD and cannot assimilate back into "normal" life. It is a combination of factors. The definition of normal that they remember when they deployed changes ever so slightly while they are gone and they remember the best about pre deployment life. Then they spend 2-4 years trying to avoid IEDs and snipers to home home to a less than ideal home life. (One guy I know has difficulty driving down the road on garbage day because trash cans and bags could be IEDs) Often these young men and women start to self medicate with increasing amounts drugs and alcohol, this makes it difficult to stay employed. Finally it becomes easier to wander without direction or purpose than participate in "normal" society. Some theories now include social media in the mix, friends and relatives post vacation pics, new car pics, and home purchase/renovation pics showing only the best facets of life that these struggling vets cannot seem to attain. They feel alienated, used, and marginalized.
Why do you think because we take in some refugees it means we aren't helping Veterans?! That's a logical fallacy. It's like saying why are you treating my cancer, when I have a broken leg? Veteran's affairs have been a massive problem for over 50 years. Yes it needs to be fixed, but its not like giving a refugee a home is taking one away from a Veteran.
What's worse is that Obama has and does try to help veterans. It's just another issue he's blocked on.
Which is conveniently forgotten by these Fox News-watching half-wits so they'll experience no cognitive dissonance when blaming him for the problem.
What has he been blocked on from helping the vets? This administration has bungled the VA time and time again and has used distraction and spin at every turn. Care to go toe to toe with evidence?
What evidence could I possibly present someone whose argument is that "the administration uses spin at every turn"? Sounds like you are closed-minded, or at least have already made up your mind.
If you're saying he has and does try to help veterans, please show us what he has tried to do and how he has been blocked? You called me a "Fox News-watching half wit", but I'm the close-minded one? I can present evidence that shows the spin this administration has performed.
So you call people names, then imply you didn't and try to argue semantics, rather than the argument itself. Typical strategy for those without facts and evidence to back up their original premise of a debate.
You put words in people's mouths, and then try to make it THEIR fault. You can do whatever verbal acrobatics you like. Doesn't change what happened.
Maybe next time, don't take things personal when they weren't directed at you. Or is that just your MO when you feel starting drama on the internet?
I put words in your mouth? "Which is conveniently forgotten by these Fox News-watching half-wits so they'll experience no cognitive dissonance when blaming him for the problem."
That was quoted directly from your comment. Now, please tell me, which words did I put in your mouth? If not me, whom were you speaking of?
Yeah, no. You don't get to pull that garbage and expect to just forget it and move on. If you wanted to know, you'd have paid attention the past 8 years instead of hiding behind the "spin" argument.
Forget what? You insulted a group a people, then when one of those people call you out on it, you claim it wasn't directed at them. I understand that it wasn't directed at solely me, but I am included in the group you insulted. Now, care to discuss the topic at hand, or are you just going to keep going off on tangents because the basis of your argument has no substance.
Hey, if you identify as a half-wit, who am I to argue?
Oh, gee, yes, allow me to "discuss" a topic with someone who joined the fray claiming "spin" on behalf of the opposition. It is my favorite thing, and I have nothing better to do.
This is like when people say we should go explore space. Sounds nice, but what about our ocean that we know less than 2% about?!? We need to take care of ourselves and our own problems before offering help to others. If your boat is sinking, you don't give the materials to fix it away.
People should care about people. Fuck borders and help who you can. Empathy and compassion are not only reserved for your countrymen. This is why I don't go outside and all my friends are elves.

But people should also care about grammar, like knowing the difference between then and than. It's hard to take someone seriously when they aren't smart enough to to know.
Hello, fellow grammar Nazi here, but it almost works in this case. "Bkah blah other countries, then ours." Changes the meaning a bit but still conveys the message.

Pretty sure first guest was using it to compare but if it were to be "then" it would need a comma.
I'm sorry I used the then instead of than I'm having a hard day and wasn't thinking
And I'm not saying that I don't think we should help others, I just think we should help our own people first especially the people that fought for our country and risked everything for us
It's how you're doing it that makes you a dick. You're insulting their intelligence and then treating them as if making a mistake is blasphemy when, like Scott said, it's a minor mistake. You don't need to say they aren't smart when somebody makes a mistake, and when they apologize you certainly don't mock them.

He cares more about other people then his own country
