Well technically it will prevent your knees from flying into your knee sockets because she could be ejected from the car before that would happen. Or at least be thrown about in the cabin. Everyone avoid doing this and wear your seatbelt :
I'm still grasping the "airbags deploy between 100 and 220 MPH" What the hell? When I go to Germany I cruise at about 120 MPH, and many Germans go over that easily. It would get really messy if airbags deployed at that speed.
Airbags deploy on impact, not speed. And I was talking about 120 miles per hour, not kilometers per hour. In Germany there's no speed limit on many roads, so you drive fast, like 120 MPH = 180 km/h.

thanks bud I had no idea how an airbag works!!¡¡!!¡ what's so confusing about it deploying that fast?
Automotive safety engineer here. The air bags have to deploy that quickly because they need to be fully inflated so that when your face or chest hits one, it's going to,start deflating. They have to,deploy in 100 milliseconds, which is about how fast you blink.
There are several things we could do to make cars even safer, like five point safety harnesses, but we have a hard enough time getting people to use the three point harnesses. Making other improvements affects the styling, and then people won't buy the cars. Seriously, we can't even point out that you have to do reasonable things like get your feet off the instrument panel without someone not liking it.
Ok, unpopular opinion, but it's been a good few years, WHY THE FUCK CAN'T WE INVENT AIRBAGS THAT DON'T BREAK YOUR GODDAMMIT FACE OR KILL YOU IN A CAR CRASH
(And before anyone asks, yes, air bags make it safer in a crash, but I have heard countless stories of people who died just because the air bag hit them too hard in the middle of a crash)
Yall seem to think its so fucking easy trying to make something that allows creatures as easily breakable as us humans survive a crash at 130km/h... The time the airbag has to deploy is fuckign nonexistant, the strength of the crash is insane compared to what our body can withstand etc...
Well minor crashes or crashes at slow speeds will usually give you a nosebleed from the airbag hitting you. Unfortunately they have to be quick and they feel like hitting your face on pavement. But if you're driving a pretty decent speed or get in a head-on collision, it's difficult for the airbag to absorb the all energy of your car instantly stopping while your body continues to travel the speed you are driving. The fact is it's really difficult to INSTANTLY stop something moving so fast without it being damaged, especially a human.
*puts feet back on dash*
