Yes, find the truth about life. Research religions and beliefs. Figure out what is true and what is not. Until you find the real truth, it is extremely easy to be swayed by earthly things.
Exactly! Like idiotic & primitive earthly religions. Research the religions to learn about how ridiculous most of their claims are and don't get caught up in that bullshit
@needmorec4 Exactly, the ridiculousness of it all will surely make you laugh!
In all seriousness though, I'm not religious myself and I don't care much about religion (unless someone tries to shove their beliefs down my throat, then I become Richard Dawkins 2.0). But some religious books are actually pretty cool as long as you don't take them too seriously, after all it's all just folk stories. My favourite ones are the Elder and Younger Edda (books of Norse mythology). They contain some interesting stories (btw actually this is what inspired J. R. R. Tolkien himself and you can really see it in his works) and some funny ones too, like when Thor dresses up into a bridal gown to go to a fake wedding, that shit's hilarious.
Lol. I love reading old mythologies and beliefs from old civilizations & cultures. It's really interesting. I just don't think there's much difference between them and common religions today. I can be kind of a dick when people try to evangilize where I don't want to see it.
Not a bad idea. Churches love depressed people. If you aren't too bad off they can help you set up a tithe or maybe get you into a support group so that you can get help from people going through a similar situation and start to feel God's love until you are well enough to start tithing.
As I understand it, as an alternative, street gangs are also very inclusive and can provide a framework of emotional stability established on mutual trust, suspicion, and chromatically consistent accessorizing.
For the record: I'm not very good with advice. Maybe you should just try to cheer up and not be depressed. Turn that frown upside down and whatnot.
OH MY GOD STOP THIS "HURR DURR DURR RELIGION SUCKS" BS. Just because ISIS is a religious terrorist group doesn't mean every church will stab the shit out of you because you don't agree with them. I have meet extremely nice religious people, and none of them considered stabbing me or shoving jesus into my face. Religion also helps people have actual morals and motives, and forces people to think about the shit they do. Sure, there are outliers of the rude people who do believe in God but that's basically saying that all Germans are racist because their history was related to Hitler. Please, just stop this whiny BS and actually thing for once in your goddamn life. Not everyone is an asshole, so don't be one @needmorec4
I'm not even religious myself, I despise the fact that some people at my old community attempted really hard to force in their beliefs, but it bugs the hell out of me when people are so close minded and think so poorly about things they never experienced.
Lol. So many assumptions. I never said all religion results in violence or that all religious people are assholes. Almost all of my friends are christian and I was very much believed in it myself. I just said that I don't like religion. That's because I think it encourages gulilbility and close-minded thinking and holds backs society by teaching objective morality that is sometimes nearly arbitrary (ex. Anti-homosexuality) and illogical. A startling number of Americans dont even think evolution is real (I believe due to religion). I also think the actual beliefs themselves are stupid and unfounded. Also you said I "think so poorly" when all I said was that's I think it's bullshit without really any explanation. (In my first comment)
Well all I saw from the comments was that you were basically just insulting other's beliefs without saying why and just saying stuff like "delusional" so I just assumed you were one of those people who hate on religion to look cool without any other reason.

As for close-mindedness, I do believe you on that. But like most things, people can interpret things differently and don't need to do what's etched in stone, so they don't always need to follow the idea of going against sexuality if they are introduced to other modern ideas. Overall, I don't truly support religion but I think for the most part people as a whole need to understand all the positives and negatives before we start calling it dumb or stupid, even if there is only one good thing.
I'm saying the beliefs are stupid. There's lots of positives that come from the religion. It brings strengthens community, often inspires charity, etc.. I just think the cons outweigh those when the religion also persecutes certain groups, encourages hatred, or promotes illogical and unscientific mindsets.
Any positive that comes from religion can be gained without. Most "joys" of religion are actually the human liking of being near other people. Join a book club or whatever the hell people do and you'll get the same result. As a bonus, you even get to become more intelligent.
Parents do that. If your depression is getting severe enough that you're having self-harm thoughts or just trouble staying on task in school, I'd go to a school counselor or find out what other resources are available to you to talk about the problem and the fact that you can't get help at home.
God is good people. Whatever you believe or how you go about it this one constant remains. I believe they were just trying to remind their child that in any time they can ask God for help, it may not come as a bright flashy flag saying I'm here to help but there are many ways he can and will when asked. Hope life brightens for you, I'll definitely communicate with the creator about it.
You don't know that, sorry you have taken such negative perspectives on religion and God from your life's experiences, honestly I am truly sorry for you. I've been through very specific events in this life that I cannot deny The existence of a higher power more in control than I am, no matter what others have to say or believe. For me, it has been made all too clear & I have met a significant amount of others who feel the same. Also, I had a parent , recover from alcoholism which stemmed from a Great Depression, and live better than they had for 30 years after they turned to God and I thank the wonderful being everyday for it. I would have never expected this parent to live more than a year in the state she was in & certainly never expected to see her sober again.
I do know that. Countless tests have been done and all come to the same conclusion - when you ignore the few who were encouraged (paid) by the Church.
I'm happy that your parent got through some rough times, but it probably had nothing to do with divine intervention, but rather the placebo effect. The placebo effect is where you believe something works, so it does. Doctors will sometimes give patients sugar pills, aka Placebo pills, and they actually do nothing, but because the patient believes they work, they do - if only slightly. It is a fascinating subject that I did not do justice, so I encourage you to do more research if you're interested.
i hope most people understand, this kind of "advice" from my very religious parents made me suicidal quite recently. they forced their beliefs onto me afterwards and took away lots of my freedom. in my situation, it was hopeless and i was prepared to kill myself. you don't have to care about me, but basically what i want people to know is that religion is not for everyone. if you've found god, good for you. if you don't want to, good for you. there are very useful and non-religious ways to help depression, as well as people who will be there for you if your parents won't.
It kinda disturbs me how this post is about somebody reaching out for help with mental health, but the debate about how religion is valid or not dominates the comments. The problem is not that the poster does not like their parents' religion, it is that the people ostensibly most responsible for the poster's wellbeing (if the poster is a minor) are not getting him or her help with a potentially disabling condition.
Why would that actually disturb you?

We have no idea who put it there, if they created or copied the meme, whether it's about themselves or another, or if they just fabricated a situation to stimulate a response. No one here thinks any of the discussion will actually help this person if they truly exist and this happened to them.
If you're point is that "depression is bad and should be taken seriously" I think everyone is agreed on that.
Now let the nice hellbound heathens and delusional bible thumpers have their debate. They enjoy it a a lot. ;)
^ if people pressure you to find religion to cure yourself, you can end up hating the religion/your god altogether if/when it doesn't help and end up even worse because they guilt you into blaming yourself for not getting better
