http://edition.cnn.com/2016/09/01/health/female-hurricanes-deadlier-than-male-hurricanes-trnd/index.html @geluregis is right.
Now the study has some setbacks (for example it includes years when hurricanes were only named after women), however there is a solid base to it, especially in that survey that basically presented the same names, only male and female versions, and people were more afraid of the male versions. People just take feminine things less seriously than masculine. Which is honestly sad, not only because it shows that women are being taken less seriously by default, but also because many people died and are going to die because of their own stupid prejudice towards feminine names.
We should just name the next hurricane Sparkly Rainbow Princess to see how many people are actually dumb enough to judge a deadly wind purely by its name.
Dang Hurricane Sparkly Rainbow Princess would be awesome. I'd still hide from the wind and run from the water. But it would be cool too look back years later and tell people. "I survived Sparkly Rainbow Princess."
Hurricane Leprechaun. People would just laugh at that. But naming them after badass mythical creatures like a Chimera, hell yes I'm down.
Edit: or maybe mythological characters' names. Like hurricane Zeus, hurricane Gabriel, etc.
Probs gonna get downvoted, but what really annoys me is that people all say "white people destroy everything", referring to like 3% of white people while the rest of the white population have done nothing and actually help the world. For example, like emma watson, who advocates for women's rights in third world countries, and even people who just help the world in smaller ways, like maybe your local doctor- yet these people are still shunned and despised due to the colour of their skin. If somebody posted something saying "BLACK PEOPLE DESTROY EVERYTHING" they would be attacked by every single person who saw the post and be forced to take it down, yet it's okay to be rude to the white race. It's also annoying that white people get attacked but people don't seem to mention all the things that people from other races have done either- nope, the only people who have done bad things are whites. I admit that the white race has caused a lot of suffering, but so many other races have too.
Wait we changed Hurricane name to Himicane names right?

Why can't we name them after mythical beasts?
I don't think many people would be able to take Hurricane Unicorn seriously. But that's still be amazing.
Like the entire. Midwest.
