We have a lot of farmers who are wealthy. If you want to condemn people, why not put a little accountability on the people who buy booze and cigarettes??

Honestly this whole post is kinda flawed, there are wealthy people in the food industry just as there are poor people in tobacco and alcohol industry.

The big wigs at Monsanto are millionaires, and the tobacco farmers and alcohol distillers are poor. It all depends where you are on the corporate ladder.

Cigarettes/alcohol = luxury items. Luxury items = cost more money than staple goods. Producers of luxury items = richer than providers of staple goods. Want farmers to start being rich, no problem we can start by charging $10 for a loaf of bread, $15 for a gallon of milk and so on. Of course no one would be willing to pay those prices for necessities, so we're back to where we started.

That's because food is an essential so a maximum price is often put on them. Cigarettes and Alcohol are addictive but not essential so the government doesn't put a price maximum on it. However they often try to make the product expensive to dissuade potential buyers and make it a luxury good.
