How is that conclusion logical? I`d say, if you see a problem with any tradition, you should stop doing that. At least, if the only reason to do that stuff is you always done it that way.
No one gave a well-earned Godwin point to guestwho, I see. Also, YOU get to decide what is good or bad, according to your morals and ethics, because that's what human beings are supposed to do, and that's what their ability to think is for, basically.

I am operating under the assumption that this post is in reference to "Southern culture", considering what happened in Virginia. I neither defend nor condemn any Southerner's claim to their "heritage", nor am I even going to approach the wild charges of racism etc.
I, however, have a great fear for the future of my own rights if we allow others' rights to be dictated. Whether I agree with someone else or not, I know that any abridgment of their freedoms is but another step down a steep and slippery slope to the very fascism that the idiots at ANTIFA and others are protesting.
If they tear down the Robert E. Lee monument, who's next? The Thomas Jefferson memorial? George Washingtonian? If you give them an inch they take a mile. While I have nothing but contempt for white supremacists, if we don't maintain our history, we cannot learn from it, and if we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. If nothing else, the monument serves as a reminder of the dangers of factionism, and a reminder to the government of what the People are capable of.
Been wondering where you were kid. Here's another stumble on your slippery slope. http://wncn.com/2017/08/14/protesters-rally-against-confederate-monument-in-front-old-durham-county-courthouse/ I'm a northerner. My family was in PA,NY and MA during the 1860s. I have no "southern heritage", but I respect that to some people those monuments are all that remains of family lost in the "war of northern aggression" that was fought over taxes, states' rights and slavery. Confederates that fell in Gettysburg were buried in shallow graves or left to rot where they fell, some families had no idea in what state their son took his last breath, just that he never returned. Statues that bear a loose representation of these men and boys are all that remain. These soldiers, both professional and volunteer were not slaves holders; they served merely to defend their homes from a perceived threat, the same as our northern boys that took up arms. Had the CSA prevailed it would be Lincoln's statue, Grant's
tomb, and the Grave of the Unknowns being defaced and destroyed by angry mobs. There are NC families right now sitting and looking at old family photos wondering how Great great great great uncle Jeb would react to being called a racist or a fascist. It's kind of sad that these are real people that believed in what they were doing that are being dishonored now.
Exactly poke. Exactly.
I'll be one of the first to call someone out for stupidity, racism, etc. But I don't want to take away their rights to be idiots for fear that my rights to be an idiot might be next.
And anything new needs to prove itself on a large scale before it should be widely accepted. It should be able to work and last all on it's own strengths and merit without any interference in it's favor.
In my opinion traditions are at best useless but harmless (for example Christmas, Easter and other celebrations), at worst harmful (for example circumcision). I really haven't found a single tradition that would today be beneficial. And oftentimes people use "tradition" to excuse their backwards mindset. Leave the past in the past, the way to move is forward.
It's just pretty annoying to see people disagree with you and not tell why. It seems like for many, the reason is that they don't even know why or can't form a coherent argument around it.

It might be annoying to you but not everyone wants to have an argument, they want to express their opinion and go, and thats what the upvotes and downvotes are for. Theres not much use complaining about it, thats just the way it is

Well… nate has a point. "That's the way it is, don't question it." is kinda the reason why so many shitty things still prevail today. People just stop questioning things in order to fit in. Maybe I just have some kind of outcast complex but I could never truly relate to that. In fact I'm a bit of a weirdo in the sense that peer pressure works the opposite way on me. When a lot of people tell me to do somehing for no other reason than "we all do it", it really makes me want to not do it. Like getting drunk on Friday nights or wearing makeup.

Where does this end? Thought police? Reeducation camps? Burning books? Gas ovens?
