I mean, unless the dog was attacking you ( and actually getting you, not like a chihuahua tipping at your ankles) and you fear for your life, that should be the only ( not medically related) reason to shoot one, just like with people.
look up some of the reasons cops have shot dogs. Maybe 1/10,000 is actually a dog attacking them. Sure 5,000 might be out of defense of territory, but that's what the fuck dogs do. issue a warrant to the owner first. The dog is innocent.
Lol. The guy is right. Killing dogs is not the same as killing a human no matter how well trained or intelligent the creature may appear to be. Killing a police dog should come with the additional charge of obstruction of justice, and killing a pet for no reason should be treated as animal cruelty. Though bear in mind that justifications for this are actually fairly common.
It really depends. If the dog enters their personal space they have every right to remove it by whatever means necessary . Unless maybe, dependent on circumstances while on private property.
I made my feelings apparent down below or above depending on how your sort I guess.. I'd just like to add that I also believe that cops should be charged with animal cruelty when they shoot dogs being dogs.
the world is fucked up people lol i dont understand how you all are still so surprised at it. nobody gets things how they want and if they do theyre probably so stupid they dont realize whats happening. ignorance is bliss
So your argument is that A) a life has no intrinsic value other than the function it serves, and B) no function that cannot be linked to a metric of value has a positive impact on society?
So what you're telling me is that because a dog can sniff out drugs it's life is more important than others.
By this logic due to the fact that your astrophysics skills don't match those of Stephen Hawking you have done nothing for humanity whatsoever
Civilian dogs that end up shot are usually untrained and undisciplined, or they are actively trained to fight.
Not the same thing at all. Unless you're from Cali. That changes things.
I dunno, there's plenty of stories about cops around here going into the wrong yards and opening fire on dogs who are in fenced yards. There was even recently a cop who came into a lady's yard and shot two dogs that weren't doing anything. I think that's on video.
Fuck everything about what you just said. Imagine an absolute untrained dog going up to a cop like it's a fucking neighbor just saying "hi"... hell we can assume it has a fucking tennis ball in it's mouth. You think that dog isn't at risk of getting shot if it puts the ball down? It happens EVERY fucking day.
Can you imagine if cops start shooting cats? Oh wait... that's what animal control is for.
And then those people wonder why they have rats.

"usually untrained and undisciplined, or they are actively trained to fight. " - I really kind of respect your audacity to just pull assertions out of your behind pretending they're facts. If you think of it, there's no chance to verify/falsify that claim, so basically what you're saying is "the cops are usually right".
And they can smell what humans can't smell which has saved lives.

Actually they can't run longer than us. Humans and our extinct relatives are the best of the best when it comes to stamina and endurance. Nothing comes close, even wolves.
Dogs to me is a slave for humanity. We value them so much and treat them like bullshit. We don't even care how they feel, did they choose to be a police dog? Or did we force them?

You're starting to sound like a variation on Third
We are all fed upon lies that everything around is happy and pleasing. We have built a wall of lies around us. People like me and @third are helping bring down that wall so we could truly be happy with the truth if we choose to be
1) Drug dogs can easily make the same motion with a command. This is basically illegal search and seizure.
2) The only reason they can is because they are fucking amazing at actually detecting drugs. The consent laws are fucked up, period due to 1).
3) Any search via dog conducted that turns up nothing should open up whatever department employed said dog for legal action under the 4th amendment.
4) This is for kouyaaotsuki: Dogs are by far the most important hunting tool humans have come across besides maybe the altatl or a fucking net. It doesn't matter what race you are, part of how you got that brain of yours came from your ancestors using dogs. Fuck off.

They are, after all, our greatest invention. We took our one time predator and made it our greatest companion.
Dogs (and all animals) have the right to not be abused. So you are false, garlog. Maybe they don't have as many rights as people, but they do have some
Legal "rights" maybe, but not moral rights, as absurd as having the former without the latter may be.
And those aren't even really rights, so much as things humans aren't legally allowed to do.
moral rights? Don't tell me you are one of those... "God gave us authority over every living creature" morons...
Try telling that to someone with dengue fever. Try justifying gut bacteria. We are not in control.
Honestly, I think animals' moral rights far outstrip the ones they're legally "granted." The question of how far that goes, of course, gets uncomfortable fast, especially when you take into account that humans really are intended to be omnivores, with at least a partial meat diet.

I'd say humans need more meat in our diet than anything else, considering our adaptations for pursuit predation
The facts are it's impossible for everyone to agree on everything at all times, At least I hope it's impossible because that would be boring as hell. So just be you and maybe don't cause harm if you can avoid it.
Cop dogs can sniff out drugs, and generally help people
no offense but aside from looking cute what did your dog do for humanity

No, I'm not one of those people.
