Its just a hairstyle, if you're really going to complain about someone using a hairstyle that MULTIPLE cultures had, you have a very good life since that seems to be such a big issue.
Also, you know DAMN WELL those girls weaves come from Brazilian and Indian girls heads but no one says that's appropriation
Not sure if this is directed at my comment or not but in general I personally don't care who wears what, this is just the explanation I've read and I'm playing devils advocate
Dreadlocks were invented by the Greeks anyway. This is moot.

I don’t think the Greeks were the only ones to invent it. They may have been the first (which I kinda doubt, I’d say it’s likely much older than the Greeks), but it probably arose in different cultures independently
It independently developed with aboriginals and Buddhists later (yeah, freaking Buddhists lol) but It was either Greece or Egypt who first developed them.. and then it basically spread through the Mediterranean and the Middle East relatively fast. There's a LONG list of civilizations from those regions, but the origin was either Egyptian or Greek... and giving their proximity and trade, it's fair to say we really dunno which.
Btw I'm not talking like.. Alexander the Great Era Greek, I'm talking older than that, 8th century BC kind of old. With the Egyptians, we've found them on mummies, but they were wigs.
Im annoyed by people being overly annoyed
"Triggered" is a word that's terribly overused, like people who get flashback from last event, people who bush into tears, start shaking and being all scared. They're triggered
People who get upset and displeased cause something is against their opinions. That's not being triggered.
Well, most of the black people wearing "white" hairstyles kind of have to do so to get taken seriously in mainstream corporate culture. While the white person attempting dreads is probably only trying to look cool, or at most has converted to Rastafarianism (I have some weird relatives.)
I'm fine with people wearing their hair how they see fit, I just think that white people don't really look as good with dreadlocks/cornrows any of those other hairstyles. I mean, if you think you can pull it off, then by all means you do you.
ufck's wrong with people, tho, getting all worked up over HAIR. we're all gonna be dust in 100 years, focus on something good and productive instead, for the love of god.
The problem is when black women wear their natural hair or styles like dreads, afros, or braids they get fired from job or told it looks messy. So in order to appease society they straighten their hair or dye it to fit in and not get reprimanded. Then when a white girl wears braids or dreads she doesn't get the same consequences and instead gets told it's cute and quirky. That's not fair. Trust me I don't think hair while matter this much so let everybody wear it the way they want without the double standard.
luckybrewster--Have you KNOWN black women who were told that or have been fired, or are you just repeating things you heard from someone who heard it from someone else who figured it was probably true based Ina misunderstood comment taken out of context? I have never heard of that, and I've been in the workforce for decades, plus know enough African Americans that this would have come up if it did indeed ever occur to people they know.
I just don't think dreadlocks look good in general, but that's just me. I don't care who is wearing them - I just think their hair looks matted and terrible.
While this is true from hat I understand, white hair doesn't usually do this naturally. You would have to severely neglect and not wash your hair to get it to do this. Black hair, or some tyes, naturally DOES do this. By wearing it, white people help reinforce (however unintentionally) the stereotype of it being dirty and gross. Also while white people can usually get away with it without being reprimand ed or called dirty, black people do tend to be judged for wearing their hair naturally.
I wanna say i read something about how there's certain products white people can use to make their hair dread because most of the white people you do see with dreads have actually matted their hair rather than actually try to dread it

The internet is crazy and everyone is triggered all the damn time

cause to me, hair should be shiny, bouncy and soft to the touch
dreadlocks got none of that
