Well as far as I know UK doesn't have freedom of speech. In the US it's a constitutional right, but a lot of places don't have it guaranteed like that.

UK does have the right of expression, which I think is pretty much the same?
The UK in theory has freedom of speach except for the fact that the government can decide what is and isn't hate speech and you could be in legal trouble.
In the United States on the other hand, your right to speak your mind is protected. Which is why you didn't see Kathy Griffin being prosecuted for her "grossly offensive" photo of herself holding a facsimile of the severed head of our President.
In the US hate speech counts as free speech so you don't have that issue of someone deciding if something is hateful or not because people can be biased, as seen with websites and colleges favoring one extreme over another.
He taught his girlfriend's dog to make a Nazi salute to phrases such as "Gas the Jews" lf someone could explain to me how that is making a joke about how dumb Nazis are I'd appreciate it. Seems idiotic and racist to me?
Ignorant to call it racist when its anti Semitic, but that isnt the point. But are you also saying that he should he punished for having a dark sense of humor?
It's not a joke about how dumb Nazis are, it's a joke that's predicated on Nazis being bad. At literally the beginning of the video he says something along the lines of "Because my girlfriend keeps going on bout how cute her dog is, I've decided to turn it into the worst thing I can imagine: a Nazi."
Apologies for mixing up racist and anti-Semitic, I'll be more careful with using the correct terms in future.
I think it's a tricky line to draw between dark sense of humour and inciting hatred (which is illegal in the UK) regardless of his intentions I'm not sure this falls on the correct side of that line.
And my saying it was making a joke about Nazis being dumb was in reference to a previous comment, not my own take on the video.
You're right but if the consequence of using your right to free speech is then answered with the removal of the right and other rights then is it even free speech at that point?
You still said what you wanted.
There were no restraints on what you said.
There is nothing that says you won't have rights taken away from you, should what you say be illegal.
Free speech isn't this magic carte balance, that protects you from being a dick. There are also laws about certain words, language, or behaviours that are not free from punishment. It's not a "get out of jail free" card.
Then it would be understandable
Everyone knows how strict Germans are when it comes to things related to the nazis.

Some people really need to remember that.

How can you possibly consider having illegal speech free speech?
