Socialism only “works” with secure borders and a population that ALL contributes; and then it’s only a matter of time before the state approved choices fail to represent the spectrum of desires in the working class.
Pure socialism doesn't work, I agree. That's why most "socialist" countries opt for partly socialism, partly capitalism. Danes have very demanding financial obligations, but they have more personal freedom and face less corruption than capitalist countries.
So you actually WANT to go bankrupt and sell your house and car when you're out of a job for a year? My SO was let off after 14 years of employment (for an American company), couldn't find a job for almost 2 years, got 70% pay all that time. We didn't crash and burn, we simply paid the mortgage and utilities, even went on vacation. Now she's back on an indefinite contract.
Thats the opposite of what i said. Yeah help people who need it but once people have recovered they shouldnt need further help. I dont want my livlihood to be dependent on the government.
Denmark: 5.731 million population as of 2016. New York City: 8.538 million population as of 2016. Things are sooooo much easier when you have fewer people to look after and support. It's easier to cater to specific people's needs when you have less that needs more and more that needs less. To put in comparison the US population of 2016: 323.4 million. That means Denmark only needs to support, protect, and govern less than 2%of the US's population. I don't know about you but if I only had to do 2% of what I do now you can bet that 2% would be a whole lot better quality than it currently is. You can take your time, test things out, and fix your mistakes before moving onto the next problem.
On the one hand, right, they're paying lots of taxes.
On the other hand, their system is working and everybody is happy with it, the percentage of unemployment and poverty is insignificant compared to other countries, their univerities have a great reputation, their streets are in good condition and so on.
And you don't give your tax to government. You give it to society.
So if I was Danish, I need to pay 60% of my income as tax.. and then for everything go buy, I need to pay different taxes??
Yeah it's currently working in Denmark maybe that is because everything is overpriced there..
Just found out that a car cost doubles in Danish market than what it costs outside of Denmark..
There will be Tax evasions, black money hoarding etc etc..
And big businesses will just move out instead of paying so much..
Exactly.. they did it in a world level crisis and everyone pitched in and maintained the status quo..
Now.. I don't think it's suggestable to adopt the measure now.
It surely wouldn't work in every society and economy, but Scandinavia is by far in the lead to show the world that there indeed are well working alternatives to the Chinese ore the Anglo-American capitalism.
They have similar perks in all Scandinavian countries, but the taxes are also sky-high. Sweden, for example, is one of the most taxed countries in the world.
But you (and I, I'm Dutch) are better off than pretty much every other country in the world. I say, let's pay half our income as tax and be better off.
Sounds good to me!
The best part about our systems is that not only does the ones paying taxes get better perks, but also those with less money and those who can't, for various reasons, pay taxes. (For example children and disabled people) It's pretty neat!
Why are Americans always so outragiously opposed to socialism? I really don't get it. The way it is applied in Western Europe works great. We have a stable society where practically no-one is left behind, because everybody has a right to basic necessities, and if you're able, you pay taxes to help out the poor. That poor kid from a single mom might be a genius or an A-list actor. He can get an education and get equal opportunity to achieve their potential.
While I agree that poorer people who need a helping hand should get it, what works in a smaller country with a less diversified population might not work in a larger more diverse country.
Plus, where I grew up, there's a HUGE issue of people taking advantage of the system. They'll be on foodstamps and welfare then buy their kids Jordan's and iPhones all the time with the money they don't have to spend on food and housing.
We're working towards a Unified Europe (whether we want it or not), that's going to be very socialist. We will sooner unify than change every state's social construct. By that time, it's over twice as large as the US. Europe is vastly more diverse than the US. Tell me socialism doesn't work on a larger scale.
Because its very important for Americans to be different. We as a society (mostly) want to be left alone and live independently. Also historically our government was designed by men who believed that each man should live his own life free of government oppression they went to war to fight that. Say want you want about current issues but the US government and political culture was originally designed for the individual not the community. Also Americans think Socialism and Communism are the same and that scares the ignorant.
Denmark has very little...errrrr..."diversity." It's easier to mutually support a small group of homogeneous composition. There aren't vast swaths of people resting in the welfare hammock.
Out of 12 months of work.. you give your government 7 months of pay... Wtff

Hey.. fuck that system
