When it comes to sex, it doesn't matter. But while I'm giving head, I very much prefer shaved or trimmed labia. I don't have any preference what's going on in the pubic bone area, but it can be off-putting to go down on a girl with a totally unlandscaped vagina.
Think I'm with spooky on this one. As long as things are more or less neat, and no one is trying to FORCE the other person to or pressure/shame them into shaving more than they're comfortable with (<- the amount of times I've seen this and the methods people have gone about it are really disturbing sometimes), then everything's alright

Yup. But at least shaving vaginas is easy.
At least that's what it appears so. Shaving balls is the main test. It is like Russian Roulette. Each stroke can either drain your life and children out of you or, it can lead to, just letting your children out on someone's face or in a condom.
Tbh I've always wondered about how shaving them would even work. Not that girls don't have their difficulties-- it's certainly far from a flat surface down there, and I guess it would depend greatly on the size of the labia etc per se, but decapitation of genitals usually seems at least slightly a lower risk. My
Lawl. Well I guess that's what makes the process worth it, then?
I really didn't want to involve myself in this chain of personal grooming but I wanted to clarify. Shaving a vagina is hard, there are so many curves and folds. I doubt there is a girl in the world who hasn't cut herself from shaving down there. That shit is tricky man, tricky.
Yall shaving a vagina is hard. Ingrown hairs are a huge risk. Ingrown hairs look like gross lumps that an unknowledgeable person might mistake for an std. And theyre so uncomfortable. Id like to add that while this may just be my shitty luck, i actually full on broke my razor tryna shave down there today.
I'm 99.999999999% certain men can get ingrown hairs, too. And razor burn. And all the other fun crap that comes with shaving. I don't really understand how you broke your razor though, tbh, unless it was an extremely cheap one, very old and rusted over, or you dropped it o.o the amount of pressure it would take to snap a razor (or any other scenario that I can currently picture involving the world "break" ) would have literally turned into inspiration for the next Saw movie in about 15 seconds
As for shaving labia, I didn't personally say it was easy, and spooky only said "it appears so, in comparison to shaving balls." And, honestly? Kinda seems like he might be right on that front.
Again, not saying shaving labia is easy, but at least your field of view is somewhat less obstructed. Not that you can see everything when you're shaving labia, but I'd really feel like I was taking my life in my hands running a razor over the back of my hypothetical balls, personally.
Shaving either seems unpleasant all around
Yeah hate to break it to you but not everyone is skinny enough to bend in half and see what they're doing. Sometimes you just have to go in blind and take things slow in hopes that you don't nick yourself.
I'm not even comfortable seeing the bush on myself
Imagine how grossed out I am when I see it in others (why I can't watch Asian porn)
Laser treatment, wax, shave, trim. Just keep the damn area clean and neat to a decent level
I didn't say all women are skinny enough to bend in half? I said they generally have a Less obstructed field of view.
Hate to break it to you, but men can be overweight, too.
Again, never said shaving labia is easy. And we really don't have to be in agreement about this, at all, but I'm not sure why you keep telling me about problems both genders can have, but use them as an argument for how women have it worse. :s I should think a man who is comparatively as overweight as a woman would still have a more difficult time seeing the backs of his balls. Especially considering women are generally more flexible by nature anyway.
Just an FYI, a podcast I watch mentioned that a doctor one of the dudes spoke to said electric razors shaving balls has caused a lot of unfortunate accidents so if any of you bois are gonna try that shit use a powerless razor cause apparently it's really common mistake?
Oh my freaking gosh I wasn't even thinking about electricity being involved in this before. Good grief
I was always thinking guys trying wax would be a thing that would go horribly, and now we got this
I don't think I'd have the guts to get waxed down there. It's hot and sucks when they mess up. I got my pits waxed before and the girl lost grip of the strip half way through the pull. It took two or three days for the pain to go away completely. I couldn't imagine the pain if somebody messed up on a vag or balls for that matter.
Fun story that might put guys off being waxed. I went to go get my seconds done at this piercing shop that also do waxing and when I was in the waiting room all I could hear was silence and then this insanely loud scream. I looked to the lady at the counter who just nodded at me and said "He's getting his balls waxed". Never got my vag waxed but I'd give it a go, it's fast and if they know what they're doing I'd feel safe.
I've read encounters women had getting them done. Some claim it gets better over time, and if the waxer is experienced they press their hand against the waxed area to help dispell the pain.
It all sounds very awful, but I think some people find it worth it? I've only tried home leg wax, and the time between where you have to let hair grow out is too unpleasant for me to do that regularly
If the person were far enough to cover their pube area to the level that they can't shave, they got a bigger problem than their bush
And it's their fault (not many people have actually condition that makes them gain weight for nothing)
Just wanted to put my 2 cents in, shaving/waxing in the genital area is very healthy. It prevents crabs and other STDs from developing, because they don't have an environment to sustain them long term. I personally prefer to use an electric razor its much easier to get the hard to reach areas with little injury.
Side note I enjoyed reading this thread.
I've actually heard completely different, tbh. From what I remember shaving and waxing actually have the opposite effects of what you mentioned. Pubic hair pretty much only has three real functions (iirc):
-to signal sexual maturity
-to provide a buffer against friction
-to catch bacteria
With the exception of crabs, which require the hair to live, shaving actually provides "easier access" to a lot of bacteria, and removal can also increase friction, not just during sex, but from clothing as well.
The reason Pubic hair is considered "unhygienic" mostly has to do with the fact that it does its job pretty well, as as such, gets dirty. Which means it requires washing.
Using waxes and lotions also has the potential to throw off the pH balance in the area, and everyone knows how much vaginas enjoy that. (Fun facts: men can also get genital yeast infections. You can also get yeast infections in your mouth, among other places).
Shaving etc also puts you at risk for ingrown hairs, skin irritations, infections, cuts, and a myriad other issues.
It's possible these facts are incorrect, but considering how long we've had hair down there, I tend to believe it probably does serve a function beyond just... looking "pretty."
Either way, we all keep doing what we do regardless because it's what we're comfortable with
I'm glad you're enjoying the thread :) it's an interesting topic, if a bit unusual
I got waxed once. It wasn't as painful as I thought, but I prefer shaving. The balls were pretty tough though!
Shaving the equipment is no big deal, though. I randomly got inspired by Dr. Evil's monologue ("There's nothing greater than a shorn scrotum...") and gave it a go. If you're thinking of it, here are some life saving tips:
1) Carefully use an electric trimmer on the bush area, but keep it away from you penis and balls - it'll cut right through them and ruin your week.
2) Use a razor that's been used a bit but isn't dull (maybe 3 to 10 uses.)
3) Apply liquid soap and warm water liberally.
4) Firmly grip the razor and gently glide it along the surface, rinsing it off every centimeter or so.
5) Go with the grain of your hair!
6) After you're done, use a shower scrubby and vigorously scrub the whole area for 45 seconds or so. This prevents ingrown hairs.
7) If you get ingrown hairs, use a topical cream like Bikini Zone to nuke them.
I hope I'm helping someone out there!
"It'll cut right through them and ruin your week."
Yeah, that'd do it, lmao.
Idk, the balls seem like they have so much... give. And the last thing you want during waxing is loose skin that follows the strip when it's pulled. Then again, having never owned a pair of balls that were attached to my body, I can't really properly speculate on the pain level involved
I find liquid soap to not work well for shaving, though. I usually use either shave cream or hair conditioner. Sometimes baby oil or aloe vera gel, or some combination of any of them
Yeah I find conditioner or just plain olive oil works super well for smooth legs, tbh I don't use it on my down-unders but I'm sure it works just as well. The only thing I find is it clogs up the razor and it's really hard to clean. Haven't found a way to fix that problem yet.

Holy God. This thread took a really great turn. And I stick to traditional shaving cream. If you get small cuts, just apply a little Alum.
@spookykink57 haha what part in particular do you find great about it?
@parisqeen I actually tried olive oil before. It worked alright for about 3 showers, then all of a sudden my body went "what the hell is THIS?" And I ended up with hives all over my legs.
Idk what alum is either (aluminum ointment of some kind is what first came to mind), but googling it brought up the result "can alum tighten the virginal?" Which really raised far more questions than it answered.
I will say salt water compresses can also help with razor burn and such
Yikes, I've heard of that happening, especially since your legs are hot so irritation is more likely to occur. Did they heal pretty quick? I don't get razor burn, or I don't get anything that causes extreme discomfort. I used to but I started regularly exfoliating whenever I shower and just keeping them moisturised stops it.
Also yeah, Alum came up as a crystal for me so would really like to know what you meant @spookykink57.
Oh sweet I've never heard of those, they look funky. Also I know your first sentence was directed at Xvar but people need to be more open about this stuff, it's everyday things that everyone does so I find it weird to make it seem so risque to talk about.

It's pretty common around here. Most of the salons average salons use it.
And yes, I agree with that.
@parisqeen it went away after a few days. Unfortunately, the first time it happened I wasn't entirely sure what caused it (like I said, I'd used the olive oil before and it was fine), so I gave it another shot after a week or two. Same thing happened, and lesson is learned haha.
Also, about you not getting razor burn, I don't believe I've told you how much I hate you lately. Not that I get it super badly or anything, but still. I've tried exfoliation and moisturizers, but sensitive skin loves to hate everything sadly -_-
@spookykink57 wait so it's a block of salts? I may just have to look into that further. Weird I've never heard of it before
I'm actually not normally super vocal about my hygiene unless someone starts talking about it first haha. But like I said, I've seen so many people trying to literally shame or borderline blackmail/threaten their S/Os into being a certain way, or just people who have gone so long without anyone talking to them about this kind of stuff ever, and it's made me want to at least try to be more open about it.
Usually it's boyfriends I've seen trying to pressure girlfriends, but this isn't always the case. Ironically, because women were expected to do it more, I think women actually ended up typically having more freedom to talk about waxing/shaving than men do-- at when least anywhere that's not the face, and then the reverse is true. And, of course, as long as they ARE shaving/waxing. The moment women stop it somehow becomes a controversy or a campaign.
As a side note, I'm curious, has anyone tried razors marketed for the opposite gender?

At least now guys talk about and admit to waxing. Although there are still a lot of people who, after hearing the word waxing for a guy, freak out.
I honestly don't prefer waxing. It's painful, once my friend pulled a prank on me by waxing my hand, almost felt like somebody pulling my skin off my arm. I have sensitive skin. But, I do shave the body. Underarms, face and genitals are the parts that I maintain time to time. Legs and chest, once in a while.
I once saw a commercial for a ladies razor, it looked really smooth but, haven't tried it.
Totally agree @rosalinas I can't remember the last time I used a female marketed razor. I find guy razors do better. In reality they are probably almost the same but for some reason guys razors are best.
@spookykinky57 I misread that as your friend waxing your head, and I couldn't figure out how both of you were still alive after that.
But yeah, waxing sucks. The break period is nice, but the regrowth period is awful, and it's all too much work for me. Plus, if your friend didn't hold the skin taut, he likely did rip more skin than would normally come off, and just yikes.

Honestly, womens' razors, it depends on the skin and hair you have, but overall from what I remember, people tend to perceive them as duller. Because, in a way, they are. They're placed at a less aggressive angle than mens' razors. Supposedly to make them gentler on the skin.
Depending on how my skin is doing, I've switched between them before, but overall I think mens' are just better designed, and more efficient.
The responses here seem to match with the overall consensus that mens' razors are preferred overall. It's always interesting to hear what other people have tried/thought

Holy Fuck. I just pictured that. I don't want something like that ever happen to me. I would rather shoot myself.
I know a guy who gets his head waxed because he enjoys being bald. Does not hurt as much as you think it would. Everyone has a different tolerance for pain but he doesn't even flinch when they rip it.
Now you understand my experience when I read it haha
And I'm pretty sure having your head waxed hurts a great deal more when it's done by a non-professional, and you're not even remotely expecting it to happen
@xvarnah Hahahaha, aw I hate you too. Honestly razor burn is awful especially since you have sensitive skin, that would suck hard. Have you tried coffee grains? Not saying it'll solve the problem but I've recently started using my left over coffee grains for an exfoliation (granted it makes a mess in the shower) but it leaves my skin so soft and it's gentle if you rub slowly.
Also TOTALLY agree with Ross, I don't use female razors cause they suck. You can get a guys razor for a cheaper price that does so much more because it's designed for the face therefore it works great and has better mobility.
I actually can admit I HAVE tried coffee ground, and I don't even drink coffee. And pretty much everything else. It definitely makes interesting clean up after So far most effective thing has still been plain old salt.
I'm starting to get curious what men would think of trying womens' razors
Damn. Maybe you could try an ointment or something specifically designed to stop or heal razor burn? Depends how much it annoys you but I know I would going for the more professional side if it was this persistent.
I can almost bet on men hating them, they suck and cost more than they're worth imo.
I've tried women's razors. There was some pink egg-looking razor on the market a while back and I dated a girl who swore by them. I tried one of hers, and I had to keep shaving the same spot over and over with almost no effect. It was awful. I'll stick with my Gillette fusion razors - those things are rock stars.
I need to try conditioner or olive oil instead of liquid soap! Thanks for the tips.

Oh yeah. You will definitely thank us for the TIPS ;)
@parisqeen I've tried those as well haha. I have the added benefit of my skin randomly deciding it hates things it's loved for years, so it's usually not easy for me to find a product I can stick with. It's not really that big a deal, just mild irritation, but it's.. Mildly irritating. Ty for the advice, though. :)
@jasonmon that pretty much is what happens with them, sadly. Apparently companies thick male hair is thicker so they design the razors to be angled sharper. I imagine beard hair is thicker than lower leg or outer thigh hair maybe, but once you go up a certain point I don't think the difference is great enough. I actually used to get cuts all the time trying to use a female razor pretty much anywhere. Gilettes are the best :)
Conditioner is a God send I think. It's slicker than shaving creams and lotions though, so be prepared for that so you don't accidentally slice off anything essential, wherever you choose to use it.
I don't actually know how you managed to shave at all with normal soap haha. Anytime I've tried to use soap it was usually a hassle because it would try and form a lather and then make the blades catch and just wasn't fun. But whatever works and gets everyone through their routines with minimal bloodshed :)
I'm thinking your skin is become immune to the products you use, it can happen and it's frustrating. Keep switching up your product while they work before your skin "gets used" to them. You've probs already done all those things though sorry my advice doesn't work lol, hopefully you find something that fixes it soon.
@spookykink57 Aw yes, bring it to me! I always welcome anyone's Topical Incisive Problem Solving
@xvarnah Lol I can agree that "routines with minimal bloodshed" is definitely the best way to be
This comedy video is related to the topic and I hope at least one of you get a kick out of it. I think they should just make a razor based on use. Thick hair, thin hair, sensitive skin and then a standard one. Why is everything marketed towards a certain gender?
