You could always go out to the boonies and make your home out there. Everything is free out there, you just gotta work extra fucking hard to get all of those things.
I would at least settle with the minimum wage being enough to support all those basic commodities. I feel like the intention behind socialism could work well, but there will always be a few (And a few in a country is millions) people who would abuse it to live without contributing to society in any way.
Meh... could be the same if applied as such (btw I do know there is a difference in teory but we can not always trust the practice or gow is it applied. I mean. Chavez called it socialism. Look at Venezuela now. Seriously look. From what I have seens socialist programs are ok/ good. But nobody needs a full on socialist goverment or a full on -any kind of- goverment. We are supposed to be an advance society, let's take the best of what it is out there)
Disclaimer. I'm Venezuelan. Before people try to internet-splain my home country political environment without previously stepping foot in it (happens a lot)
And why do we care if people abuse it? We have disguised unemployment everywhere. We pay people to make shit that we just throw out. We have enough vacant homes in the US that no one needs to be homeless. In a society where we have so much of many things that we waste them prolifically, we’d rather throw things out than have them go to someone who didn’t work- but if we already have more than we need (enough to throw out) and these people are “lazy” or unskilled- IF they were working, what would they do for society? Make more shit we don’t need? Do a terrible job sitting at a gas station counter all day instead of sitting at home all day? It’s faulty logic. We need to change our thinking from pre industrial ideas of “work or die” to post automation intelligent labor- WHY are we doing a thing, what is the purpose? Not just “I had to work 40 years so you do too.”
As automation increases it would eventually get to a point where most things will be done by robots, efficiency makes it so we need less people for the same tasks. We developed a niche of “retail and sales” workers when skilled labor fell to factory labor and factory labor fell largely to machines and the un skilled. Now we are replacing retail and sales workers with machines. What is our next pointless disguised unemployment scheme? What if people only did jobs that actually needed doing, or jobs they found challenging and rewarding? What if the values of society shifted to doing good human labor where it is actually needed or just because that was what a person was drawn to, a world where there aren’t disgruntled or “bad” workers because people want to do the job and aren’t forced to?
There will likely always be vital jobs that only humans can do, and we do need to make sure that those jobs are reliably filled, but the idea that humans can’t or shouldn’t reevaluate the way we view labor and reward is silly. Capitalism exists as a spectrum and not an absolute. Our own society contains many “socialist” principals and we must never forget that capitalism is a tool to an end and not an end itself. It is a system of motivation designed to compel people to do better and further social progress. But... 9/10 times the “career” entry level employee was never going to invent artificial gravity. That is why they are a career entry level employee. 9/10 times the “Einsteins” of the world were never going to sit around eating Cheetos and watching “Friends” all day instead of innovating because that’s not who they are. Einstein didn’t theorize relativity to get rich, the “Beanie baby” or the Pog or “fidget spinner” are innovations that people came up with for money.
Compare The theory of relativity or gravity to fidget spinners or shopkins and tell me which one society needs more of, “blind capitalism” inspires Fidget spinners, not FTL space drive principals. That takes intelligent capitalism to flesh out. So if capitalism a a method of incentive to benefit society, but not all successful capitalist actions benefit society in the current design, and capitalism as designed punishes people who wouldn’t otherwise be able or willing to contribute- that’s not effectively accomplishing the goal of pushing people to advance society is it? And the idea of the “drain on society” only works if people are taking what would or could go to someone more “deserving” or “in need.” However, the amount of food, clothing, and other goods we waste shows that it wouldn’t be a drain to give them away for free because they are in excess of what society needs or else there wouldn’t be waste to begin! So at the end of the day it costs you nothing. Not even effort.
Tampons and pads are a luxury, not a necessity. You could use a washable cloth, or a cup. That's like claiming clothes should be tax free, or food, or gas, or electricity.
Lol. That is why I said in this country. Washable cloths are an option in other less fortunate countries with limited access to the majority of things you can imagine. But for any woman in this country it is probably highly inconvenient. Plus those (cloths and cup) would be an occasional purchase. Food is tax free (store bought) unless is processed food I believe in most states. Clothes you have many choices in prices and can also be an occasional purchase or as frequent as you want. I don't choose to bleed for 5 to 7 days making me change pads at least 3 to 4 times a day
So by that logic all first aid, antacids, analgesics, etc should also be tax free because no one chooses those conditions either? For the record, I’m not trying to be snarky, I’m curious as to your reasoning.
Well to answer to @scatmandingo it is just the way I see it because it is 1. A need, and 2. A frequent one. Some over the counter meds or first aid might be an occasional thing. But yeah a medication that someone needs on a regular basis ? If we look at it like that it shouldn't be either.
Guest: pedicures? You can totally opt out of pedicures or do it yourself. Paying for it, it is luxury.
Tampons and pads must not be tax free till they are produced by corporations..
They can only be tax free if small scale industries which help growing the local economy is involved..
There are some organic ones that I believe are. (After a woman that had cervical cancer found pesticide in cotton was a risk factor). I don't think that is a condituon thought. Many fruits and veggies are sold by big corp
There’s some good points there but let’s throw this in perspective- for its intended use, how many men will pay for toilet paper and how many women? It’s about 50/50 let’s just say. For its intended use, how many men will pay for tampons or pads...? Effectively 0%. Now- the comparison to food isn’t apt. It just isn’t. You die without food, you don’t die even if you just let the blood drip down your leg. Pretty picture huh? Let’s look at that. Imagine a world where once a month women just wore dresses and no panties. Do you want that bus seat or bench spot when she gets up? It’s in the interest of society that women manage their menstrations. It’s a public health issue for the women and for everyone else. You can’t compare it to using the bathroom because 1. You have some control over where and when you go if you aren’t medically unsound and not a toddler. 2. Everyone uses the bathroom. Biology only gives periods to women. SO. As a society we know women must buy something to stop...
... the blood. An expense all women will have that no Len will have, and there is no male equivalent. In fact, there really isn’t an expense that men have as a public safety or health issue that women don’t. It’s an extra burden on women that isn’t anyone’s “fault” it is part of life and how we can even have people to run a society is because of periods. So “use a disposable.” But that costs society too, and the individual woman. Having to empty and wash a menstral cup in a public bathroom, or carry one around in case you get your period unexpectedly? The time and care, the associated risks of infections etc... saying “use a cup” is the same message which is: “you aren’t valued. Your time and health doesn’t matter.” We always like to talk about how life isn’t fair, but we control society. We don’t control nature. It’s our choice how fair society is. Why wouldn’t we want to show women we appreciate them AND THE VERY EXISTENCE OF LIFE ITSELF by being adults and taking some burden off?
Also the antacids argument is moot because most people with those issues can easily change what they eat or drink to not have indigestion or an upset stomach. You have ibs? Completely different and then that would be handled by basic healthcare - I'm sure you'd get a stipend to buy these products. But you're lactose intolerant and still eat dairy? Whose fault is that. You have acid reflux because you drank or ate something acidic? Etc

@guest_ thank you!
For the record, I just said I think pads should be tax free. Never said other things shouldn't but as has happened in many other instances @guest_ has more patience than me explaining what coincidently I'm thinking too
Tampons and pads are free.. if you use wash clothes or absorbing cotton from trees..
.
Food is free.. lots of stuff to eat in the wild or even you can grow if you know agriculture..
.
Lots of rivers with clean water too..
.
Shelter is free if you know to build a hut..
.
Healthcare is free in it's basic form, lots of natural remedies and physical activities which help you live healthy..
.
Everything is free in it's basic form.. if you want it in a proper civilized form, there will be a person who will be putting efforts to make it so, and that person will need to be paid for his efforts.. hence these can't be free...
Using absorbing cotton from trees is almost guaranteed to give you an infection or toxic shock syndrome. And good luck finding a river with clean water in some areas. Especially in the winter, some areas have no food. And natural remedies and exercises can't help you with cancer, pneumonia, broken bones, or the flu.
Lol I know this dumbass did not just type out ‘natural remedies are free’ and 10 people liked it?????? I can’t handle the idiots on this site xoxo peace funsubstance
I agree non of that makes sense in this society unless you don't work spend all your time doing this I guess. But the worst example is shelter. You can't just buikd something anywhere. You need permits that cost money. So, no. It it's not free.
Uh free how? Who is going to make them? And with what when you're not paying for them?
And even if you don't pay to buy them, you would pay to them through taxes. So still not free
And please don't fuck me, I'm only into people who got brain in their skull, not shit
i just find it funny the people that want all this free stuff will be the same people that bitch because there income taxes are so high they can't afford cell phones and going out on the weekends and stuff. and then they will bitch about the terrible government taxes.
