Generalization is convenient, however it isn’t precise. It is common in this age to have legitimate pubic officials and personalities say and do things that are so outrageous or ignorant that if you didn’t know better you’d think it’s satire. A popular form of entertainment today are comedians who put on extreme satirical personalities and pretend to be real people like that, and not only do people believe their outrageous by design farces- but they find genuine support. So knowing that in this world today there are plenty of people who legitimately think and feel almost comically extreme and demonstrably false things, it is understandable that generalities without qualifier could be seen as a blanket statement. It is also a known fact that intentional or not- the subconscious reinforcing of a message, even a known lie or a joke, can influence cultural beliefs. In that light, that is why people challenge these types of things.
