Kevin Hart made a joke about 9 years ago about how he didn't want his son to be gay. People freaked out at the time and he apologized. Flash forward to a couple of months ago and Kevin Hart is named as a host for the Oscar's. Internet people dug up his old routine and it became a thing again. Kevin had already apologized for it and didn't feel like foing so again so he stepped away from hosting the oscars.
It's not like he didn't have a point to begin with. Yeah even if his son were gay his life shouldn't be tougher because of it, but at the same time the reality is that it will be. Who would wish for something tougher on their child that shouldn't be in the first place?!
Yes... I know... A LOT of people. Doesn't justify it, nor detract from his point.

So another James Gunn situation. At least nobody got fired this time.
Actually Kevin Hart never apologized, Vulture did an investigation on his past remarks (https:// www. google.com /amp/s/ www. vulture. com/amp/2019/ 01/kevin-hart-homophobic-tweets-apologies-ellen-degeneres. html). Additionally, the ‘jokes’ in question weren’t about something frivolous like stereotypes and he wasn’t saying something like ‘all gay men are flamboyant amiright fellow heteros?’ He was joking about assaulting gay people for being gay, and specifically his son. This is a huge fear of every LGBT person’s—being disowned and the violence that can result from coming out—and even joking about how you’re going to commit acts of violence against x group for BEING x group is not okay.
I enjoy the h*ck out of dry British humor, and I laugh at most American comedians. I've never really cared for Kevin Hart. He says some funny stuff but, compared to his peers, his stories are long without a lot of payoff.

I like British humour, it's dry, it's dark and it's not loud and it's perfect for me. But, as an Indian, I don't know what my position should be on liking British things.
I find about 60% of his stuff funny. He has a repetition habit that irks me and ruins some of his jokes.
Repetition is fine when it is to remind the audience of a larger joke overall, but just bashing it through trying to make it funny? Nah.
Patton Oswalt, Louis CK, Bo Burnham, Hannibal Buress, Bill Burr, Dave Attell, Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Mike Birbiglia, Demetri Martin... all comedians with a variety of styles I find funnier than Kevin Hart.
Not the point, but: When derision has been or is dangerous, jokes are no longer funny.
It’s very simple. If a group has been targeted, it’s not clever to reference the things that were used to set them apart. If a group had had violence against them, referring to the violence in the past or present isn’t a joke. It’s just stupid.
Refusing to acknowledge someone’s pain because being stupid is more fun for you has never been a valid defense. ‘I was stupid/didn’t realize i could know better and I’m sorry; I don’t reference that anymore’ - valid! Can you Buh-leeve all this whining about someone making a joke?!?! - NOT valid. Acknowledging your mistakes means owning that it may reverb in the future and accepting the fallout. He’s doing that. You’re not. Grow up.

A significant portion of American humour is pretty basic, especially when compared to (some) British humour
