It's like the 7 tables but you just add a 0 at the end? Why would knowing this arbitrary thing make one a wise person? A monkey can memorize multiplication tables.
Yeah. In today's day and age, it's more important to have critical thinking and sound reasoning. It's cool that you know your 70 times tables but if you believe that the Moon landing was faked because a website on the internet said so, you have a lot to improve. I guess it's understandable for old folks to be proud of remembering arbitrary stuff since they didn't literally have all knowledge at their fingertips like we do now, but many of them (now I'm just speaking from experience, absolutely feel free to disagree) also haven't learned how to reason properly, create sound arguments or think critically. I know it's a common trope nowadays that the youngsters are always offended at everything but I've deadass never seen anyone more triggered, more emotional and more prone to throwing unrelated ad hominems at you than an old person (my personal experience comes from meeting relatives and friends of relatives) with whom you express political or ethical/philosophical disagreement.
No I agree, not generalising an entire generation/s (as I've seen some older people do), most of the debates I have are with older people who just don't have all the facts or believe every article they read without reading up or cross referencing other sources. Of course not everyone is like this but it's frustrating to have someone generalise all my friends and myself based off of our age, rather than get to know us cause not all of us were even lucky enough to have the technology many presume all young kiddos have.
I saw this old timey news article where people were complaining that kids nowadays don't even know how to wipe chalk off a chalkboard without getting it all over themselves...
The standards change continuously and will for all the generations after us. Let's vow not to be the same dickheads when those after us get a new curriculum.
Lol possibly. Let's not kid ourselves, we might vow not to be like that and we might even keep that vow, but there will 100% be arsewipes among us repeating these past mistakes.
Definitely, but we don't have to be those arsewipes.
There's going to be some major tech breakthrough at some point, or perhaps it's just going to be standardizing use of tech in classrooms. I bet that at some point in the future kids will no longer use paper and pen in the classroom.
Then we'll sit there all pissy that we had to learn handwriting for years and scream that kids nowadays don't even know how to properly write by hand anymore.
Not that that will be something they need at that time, but we'll still be sour for our wasted time.
Does this "not knowing to write cursive" thing exist outside of America?? (Genuine curiosity... and only inquiring about countries that use romane alphabet).
Well yes I know I'm French and I know a Dutch boy... That's why the concept of NOT knowing how to write cursive puzzles me, and I'm wondering about countries where a lot of people CAN'T write cursive.
And so...I see most every comment demoralizes anyone who isn't a Millennial. So I'm guessing you all fed, diapered and at some point (maybe in your late teens), potty-trained yourselves.
"What if I told you" internet arguments are about as beneficial as your Brit spelling of "CRITICIZING". Do everyone a favor and go brush your yellow teeth, Prince Charles.
Not knowing how to write in cursive is far more basic than understanding computers. I'm 25, and I write pretty much exclusively in cursive. Reading these comments is interesting, seeing how far cursive has fallen out of the mainstream.
