The problem is this assumes the opposition, which would be democrats conflated with extreme socialism, would be for the other idea in the first place. That's not true. Maybe 10% of democrats think to this extreme; about the same amount that are right wing fascists.

Just because a policy or program is socialist doesn't make the entire government socialist. They are both socialist programs, as is medicare and many other programs in the US.
Alright then stranger, head downtown and find a homeless guy and take him home. Go on. Take that random guy home and put him to work. Overlook that felony in his resume (because God knows no HR department will) and offer him that job nobody else has because he smells like fish. Go on, if it's that easy.
Even if you want to ignore the fact the the homeless guy probably is a veteran (statistically large percentage of homeless people) or is suffering some sort of mental illness, or the fact that a huge percentage of homeless people actually have jobs but can’t afford home.
Just from a self-serving perspective it’s cheaper for society to provide housing than to manage the other costs associated with homelessness.
