Just as a side note (education time, folks):
"Booping" snakes should be reserved only for a snake that if very comfortable with you, and should only be done very very slowly and lightly as a lot of snakes are actually what is referred to as "head-shy," meaning they tend to perceive things suddenly touching their heads as scary or a potential threat. Ball-pythons in particular are fairly shy/timid snakes (they usually require socialization to get anywhere near the comfort level of the snake in this video), and often have issues with things touching their heads (my own snake, bless her stupid little heart, bumped her nose against the floor of her tank once, scared herself, and recoiled only to smack her head off the entrance to her den.)
'As far as I know, the "Yawn" Opal does is less about yawning as humans and other mammals typically do (to get more oxygen/as a sign of tiredness/boredom), and is actually most likely a way for the snake to stretch out it's jaw
this is great and all, but not really encouraged in Australia to handle snakes, pretty much we have 9 of the world's top 10 deadliest snakes lurking about, so yeah, don't go booping those
Well, yes, though this is not a wild snake just picked up at random. It was obtained through a pet store or breeder I would assume, and she knew the species-- ball Python, which is a non-venemous, small species of constrictor uninclined to bite. The snake is also showing no signs of distress (hunching up in a ball) or aggression (hissing or "tracking" with an S-Bend in it's neck). Handling of wild snakes should pretty much always be left to professionals, regardless of location
My dad had a Ball Python called 8Ball. He had him 12-13yrs from size of a pencil, up to approx 6-7ft. 8 would sit on dads shoulders all day an not poop/pee on him. Everytime dad put him on his shoulders 8 would align his head as if he was looking at him right in the eyes. Inch towards his face, get up to his nose, kiss his nose. An back up, smile then “crawl” around on his shoulders until dad put him up. My baby doc said snakes carry salmonella. Mom FREAKED out, made dad get rid of 8. Dad tried to teach mom that getting Salmonella from 8 was very rare an that he would wash his hands after touching him & not put him on me. Mom said 8 had to go. So my dad gave him to a buddy who had about 60-80 reptiles at his house. Had him until his house burned down, short in heating rock, killing all but 7 :(. 8 was not lucky. Although dad side he wouldn’t put 8 on me. I did have a pic of 8 on dads & my shoulders when mom was not home of course. So he would have a pick of all of us together!
Yeah that hit my dad hard. He loved that little dude a lot. Always told my mom that he would get rid of her before he would get rid of 8. But love for my mom, but he always said he did it for me, prevailed over his love for 8. Oh well!
That's so sad. :/ when I was researching my snake terrarium I heard nothing but horror stories about heating pads and rocks (and tape) so I've done my best to stay clear of them
@xvarnah YES!! From what I was told by my dad an Uncle D & research I did too. They all said DO NOT USE HEATING PADS OR ROCKS!! Unless that’s all ya have. Then only use them for a short time. Dad said you may use the pad/rock an never have a problem. But then again you may not know you have a problem cause a pad/rock may short out an go way above the intended heat, like it says 85f but shorts an go’s up to 115f. A lizard may go “Oh shit this is hot, I’m not gonna stay on this long” where a snake will just go “Ooooo YASSSSSSSSS” “Thisssssss isssssss great” an cook it’s self. Dad had a corn snake do that. He said he could literally smell the snake cooking. Or worse it shorts out an burns the house down. So if ya can stay away from using them please do so.
@aviva Thank goodness for that little fluff ball!! She, besides you of course, is my best friend that I know will love me no matter what I do or say. She may not be able to respond to me verbally but just her whines, barks, grunts, sneezes, burps and heck farts lets me know she is there for me thick or thin until the end! Cause she is FAMILY!!
@t__v__t That‘s awesome! :) Your dad said she was sometimes mischievous too lol. Please could you tell Uncle D. I want to talk to him? He said he‘d be busy and I should tell you when I need him.
That’s where the farts come into this. She will get under my covers or back her little fluffy butt up agains my head an let the SBDs go. Thus almost killing me.
I sure will sis. He is out of town until I think Thursday or Friday. But I will deff tell him to get up with you tonight. Is everything ok?
@t_v_t oh no worries-- like I said I've read so many horror stories- for lizards too. I've only ever used heat lamps. And a human heating pad in the winter-- but it is beneath a pad, covered, and nowhere near her skin. Just provides a little extra belly warmth during the colder months. Again, I'm really sorry your dad had to go through that
Thank you! I’m know he would have been touched to know someone other than family cared about 8Ball and reptiles as much as he did. But that was long ago. An he is at peace now. He passed last October. Due to some demons he was fighting with. He along with my uncle C, known as LiquidE on here, were both active members on FS. I am currently using his, my dads, account to I guess carry on his “legacy” per say. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Nothing is off limits. I can not answer personal things like my real name, age an where I live. My Uncle D is very strict about that an will make sure to do what he can to keep me safe. Other than that ask away. I got a big Sis @aviva who is also on here. She can speak for me if I don’t get to the question first. She has full authority to do/say what needs to be done on my behalf! I’m approachable so please don’t be shy to joke with me or ask questions.
@t__v__t Thank you so much for reaching out to him. He just messaged. Sorry I took so long to respond. Thank you for your kimd words. And don‘t worry, all is well :)
@t__v__t and @xvarnah, I‘m not a snake person, I‘d freak out if I saw one lol. And don‘t worry xvarnah, t__v__t‘s name is Supereme Overlord III(Aka S.). She‘s 74 years old and lives on Mars. We should be grateful she hasn‘t invaded us yet.
@aviva I think I just peed myself. An it’s not because I’m 74 years young my dear. It’s due to you making me laugh so hard that I had no control what so ever. Even though you are not blood. It would be very hard to tell that you aren’t. Cause from what you just said is to the exact T on what a blood would say about another one of us!! Your personality is sooooo darn close to ours, that you gotta be kin somewhere down the line!! There’s no other explanation! I’m even more convinced that you are kin so calling you Big Sis just makes more sense now!!
@t__v__t Oh lol ^^‘ I had no idea. That‘s so sweet. If I am somehow related to you, then don‘t bug me for any birthday gifts I owe you from all the birthdays I missed, lil sis haha.
I thought you were asking what got in my eye for a second and I spent a solid minute confused as all heck haha. Not that it's hard to confuse me, mind you..
@t__v__t Don‘t make me wash your mouth with soap, lil sis. How dare thee use these signs ($&?) together. It‘s supposed to be &?$.
@xvarnah Fish crackers! Potato biscuits! Lemon juice! broken bucket! lol
