But, even if you're not often thinking of Notre Dame, now would be the time to learn. There's nothing wrong with being ignorant by design, but there is something wrong with being ignorant by choice. There are powerful tools for education nowadays. Use them carefully, wisely and often.
(Sorry, one more thing)
It also serves as a good reminder to travel the world as much as you can. Things that are worth seeing may not always be permanent. People widely accept things like Notre Dame as invincible without realizing it. It's similar to the twin towers in that people never suspected that a building as iconic as those would be destroyed, (although I hesitate to compare the two because the two events as far as I know had different causes)
Most people don’t wake up everyday and think about how lucky they are to have their pants, their breakfast, their car. We miss them when they are gone- not while they are here. Even people who don’t care about the site can empathize with the loss of those who do, and the loss to humanity of a cultural, historic, religious and fiction icon that has stood through ages of human history and is one of not so many historic buildings in heavy conflict zones to survive WW2. And as you aptly and wisely say- it’s never too late to learn
Actually I thought about it often. It is a dream I have to go and see it. Visiting it was on my top 10 bucket list. Along with seeing
Juliet's house in Verona Italy
The Grand Canals in Venice Italy
The Great Barrier Reef in Australia
Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro Brazil
Stonehenge in Amesbury England
Bran Castle in Bran, Romania
Prince Edward Island in Canada
And I also want to spend time in
Italy
Greece
India
China
Japan
Ireland
Scotland
New Zealand
Australia
And Hawaii of course
But anyways yeah umm just because we all don't mention Notre Dame every waking minute doesn't mean it wasn't always this beautiful place we all dream of one day seeing and seeing it burn is like seeing that magical fairy land of our childhood being destroyed. So EXCUSE ME IF I CANT FIND THE DAMN NINJA CUTTING ONIONS IN MY HOUSE!
I live near Paris and it was heartbreaking to wat the cathedral burn last night. It's incredibly beautiful and the architecture is amazing. Very saddening.
Yes, because everyone is as ignorant and close minded as you. Notre Dame has stood for over 800 years. Its an icon for architecture, religion, literature even. Hell, even it even featured in a Disney movie, there is a MASSIVE number of people who ordinarily wouldn't care about some cathedral in France, but THAT one holds a special place in their hearts.

It's not about that. Have you given a thought about a really prestigious monument in some different country every day? But if tommorow it burns down, of course the people are going to know about it and feel sad. What if they didn't had a personal attachment to it, it's still a monument and resembles art, architecture, history, etc.
I don't think about Saint Paul's Cathedral, but I'd be sad if it burnt down.
I don't think about the Reichstag, but I'd be sad if it burnt down.
I don't think about the Hagia Sophia, but I'd be sad if it burnt down.
I don't think about the Great Pyramids, but I'd be sad if they collapsed.
I don't have to constantly think about something, to be sad about the loss of history and culture...
You probably think about certain family members about as often as you think about the cathedral, by your logic if they died you would not be allowed to be sad and would not be allowed to be vocal about said sadness.
perhaps an unpopular opinion but the fire blazing through that Charachteristic Spire TM looked absolutely beautiful in my opinion. i realise it's very sad to see such damage to a historical building etc etc but MY GOD IT LOOKED GORGEOUS.
don't get too mad at me bc apparnetly god also thought it looked gorgeous otherwise He in his allseeing wisodom would not let it catch fire.
