The Canadian government is a goddamn mess, and our economy has tanked extremely hard if anyone's paid any kind of attention lately. I try not to and even I'm aware it's a mess. But on the plus side Alberta managed to get rid of the NDP after 4 years so we have that.

Side note: I don't give a good goddamn if there's 50% women. I want to know there's 100% qualified people.

Thank you!
Only issue is that UCP is the complete opposite of progressive in regards to things like mental health or the LGBT community... but I guess you can’t win them all?
Tbh I haven't looked into his politics on the LGBT community too much. At the end of the day, Alberta is more or less the Texas of Canada, and I think the UCP are going to be more focused on the oil/economy problem
Side note reply: as the world population male to female ratio is near 50/50 or 102 males to 100 females, the fact that the sexs have equal numbers in office likely means they are picking based on qualification or a different qualifier instead of gender. Which is positive and at least not an issue in this instance.
Let's just say it currently looks like he's unlikely to ever get re-elected as things currently stand. And it's a corruption/bribery case involving a company called SNC-Lavalin, with dashes of extortion and blackmail added just for a bit of extra fun
Not even close. We're also currently in a bit of a dick measuring contest with China because we arrested one of the higher ups of Huawei on behalf of America due to (iirc) Huawei bypassing US sanctions.
'
China isn't happy about this and has since arrested two Canadians, changed the prison sentence of a Canadian involved in drugs to a death penalty, and put a ban on the import of Canadian Conola claiming they have reason to believe it has parasites or some other BS.
'
Meanwhile Canada is doing it's best to treat her with all the courtesy they can under the circumstances. As far as I know America hasn't even extradited the woman yet.
We're also harbouring a good deal of in-fighting between "environmentalists" who keep blocking the building of a pipeline that's vital to the Canadian economy, including several aboriginal groups who say they are very upset about the entire thing-- but they'd be perfectly fine with it, if THEY were given control of the pipeline.
'
Some of these environmentalists have gone so far as to place bear traps along places production for the pipeline is supposed to occur, because what better way to save the environment than an attempt to cripple someone for life
'
Meanwhile they conveniently ignore the fact that shipment via rail is worse for the environment, more costly to the economy, and more dangerous overall.
'
So all in all it's just a big financial fuckfest, but because people buy into it the pipeline has been back and forth between being built and being on hold for years. Again, it's done wonders for the economy, aboriginal relations, and just people in general
End result is BC keeps doing their best to block the pipeline despite a lot of people in BC not necessarily being against it, so now Alberta is talking about cutting off oil and gas to BC altogether, and BC is talking about cutting off Alberta's access to ports in retaliation. At one point there was also something to do with BC wine not being welcome in Alberta.
'
Also one of Justin Trudeau's advisors or something quit in response to the SC-Lavalin stuff, and some other guy quit after making some unauthorized comments about the Huawei situation
'
So, yeah, Canada's a pretty big mess right now, with no clear end in sight.
Cutting funding for everything. Forcing kids to take at least 2 courses online. If you don't have internet at home you can use a library and then immediately cut funding for libraries.
Brilliant. So to sum up: the government at large and Quebec's part of a scandal and still doesn't know if they want to be part of Canada, Alberta and BC are in a faux-civil war, China hates us all, and Ontario has lost ability to formulate logical thoughts
'
At least the Yukon seems to be doing okay (or at least I haven't heard anything), so we have that
