My jr high had a 2 classroom building in the back of the school that was there since the 1950s lol. Yet they school had 5 classrooms with nothing but old desk and old furniture. The building was falling apart. It had a hole in the floor in one classroom so the teacher put a big slab of wood over it lol. The ramp to go in was made of rotting splitting wood. It is a thing to do where we kids would just swing under the bar at the top the ramp and hop down. Well I did this one day and went to the bathroom came back and sat in class. About 10 minutes go by and the teacher looks at me pale as a ghost and says OMGOD ARE YOU OK?!?! I say yeah why? She points to my right leg and it is soaked in my blood fro. The knee down. I was wearing acid wash Jean's they looked black from all the blood. I went to the nurse my knee was torn from top the knee cap to the bottom. She gave me butterfly bandage and sent me to class. Refused to let me call my mom. Turned put I needed 6 stitches.
My mom called the school and yelled at them for what seemed like hours. The next day the ramps were gone and in their place was newly made stairs. Which we later found out was made over night by the woodshop teacher. He was paid 50 dollars for each. And only reason people found out is because he complained about it to his class lol saying he did a good job they promised 100 each but said no they ment 100 for both.
They were actually lucky mom and dad didn't sue like they wanted. I begged them not to because they said I would have to move schools if they do and though the school really was terrible lol the teachers and students were worth staying for. Many of my favorite teachers were from that school. And I would of lost my Dyslexia program. It was the only jr high that offered it.
Ok so I was talking to my mom and told her about telling this story about my knee and she said did you mention what your dad did? I totally forgot. See my Dad was a State Fire Marshal at the time this happen. And when I told him the condition of the school he sent the info to the "right people" and the school was inspected on a surprise inspection. The school was shut down for a week in February they moved our spring break up because apparently there was a shit ton problems not just with that building but everywhere. There was fire alarms attached to nothing. And smoke alarms that batteries died so long ago the batteries were corroded. My dad even sent a health inspector and even the kitchen wasn't up to code.
My Dad told my mom if it wasn't for the fact I really loved my school he would of had it closed. The inspectors kept coming to my Dad saying you sure we should give them time to repair it should be closed. And my Dad explained it's the only jr high that has a Dyslexia program.
