Cats are assholes

I wake up to my cat trying to suffocate me or hit me in the face

This is why you should never allow a cat to sleep in the same room with an elderly person or an infant.
I have a 2nd cousin who was just 3 days old and thank God for a baby monitor because the parents left the baby room door open and their cat came in to snuggle with the baby. Problems was it was completely covering her face. When the baby wasnt making any sound they went to check on it being new parents. They come in the cat was still there. They took the cat off her and she was not breathing. They called 911 and my uncle the Dad's Dad used to be an EMT with my Dad and he lived next door. So as they called they ran the baby next door. He did CPR and the baby began to cry and was breathing again. They nearly lost her. They took her to the ER to get test and luckily she was ok.
After that they almost gave the cat away but instead realized it wasn't doing it on purpose. They just made damn sure the cat was no where near the baby when it was alone.

It’s too cold in the apartment/house. Get the cat an insulated blanket/heating pad and put it in a cat bed. Place the cat bed near your bed.
