I mean, if you eat it for a snack and it is cheap, it's a cheap snack. If it is easy to get and affordable, it's not luxury. The title is just a statement, and I see nothing wrong with it. Sounds like people are reading into it.
Simple, they don't. When talking about luxury food, taste is secondary what matters is the prestige of the food and the fact that it earned the approval of other big shots. And eating the same foods those big shots eat makes their ego bigger, thinking that they are of a hugher status than everyone else because they can't afford even a tiny fraction of it further solidifying their own ego against others.
Story time: I once worked for a guy who imported fresh fruit, wine and brandy from Moldova, and our suppliers had this mafia connection for illegally processed and packed caviar. It was of sub-par quality from the beginning and it didn't get better in transit, hidden under a bunch of grapes on a bucket of ice. It wasn't much, just enough for him and his snobby small-town golf club buddies. He sold it to them at about half the price of the real stuff and that shit was appalling. Many cans had a big bulge and squirted some eau de dead raccoon when opened, in general the odor was like Surestroemming (google it) and still his idiot buddies would buy it to impress their idiot friends. Not any one of them, incl. my boss had ever eaten real, fresh caviar, and they thought it was supposed to be like that. until a russian business friend got that shit served and thought it was a super bad joke. None of them ever mentioned that again.
Caviar is fucking awesome if it’s not cheap crap. Ossetra, which is about $70/Oz is my favorite so far. I can understand why many people don’t like it. It’s not a pizza or spaghetti type of appealing. It has a saltY, fishy taste that is really subtle and rich. I tried it for the first time a couple of years ago and every few months my cravings overwhelm my financial sense and I get some more. I would eat it by the pound if I was super wealthy.

I kind of dig fresh roe but they don't need to come from a sturgeon. I agree that really fresh de luxe caviar is nice but not 70-100 Bucks an ounce nice.
In Mehl gewälzt und frittiert, dazu Bratkartoffeln mit Speck und ordentlich Bier, das geht schon. Bin aber auch nur immer eingeladen worden, von mir aus würde ich das nicht bestellen.
Tasted like shit. I have no idea why people love it so much
