It's also ridiculous cause that skin to skin contact is an extremely important step to create that bond between baby and parent, if a parent is really tight on money and doesn't want to pay for that then they have to sacrifice that important connection. It's also like, the parents baby, paying to hold your own kid is just so so stupid.
Like @igot3bodyproblems said, C-section are usually done in cases of emergency when the cervix hasn't dilated enough for the baby to come out, this causes stress on the baby and the mother, in turn the baby can die. So, for the safety of both mother and baby, c-sections are performed. Sometimes they have to be done very quickly, usually when something's wrong with baby but other times the mother is given a few minutes to decide if she wants to put her baby at risk with a natural birth, or do a c-section. More often than not, the mother decides on a c-section for the safety of her child. Therefore, more staff is needed, to perform is safety rather than a natural birth where usually only 2 nurses or midwives are needed.
It's actually more complicated than you might think, especially for new mothers who haven't done it before.
It can even be painful at first, even if done correctly.
I asked my mom and she said it could be that they charge for theatre time at flat rate and since it's not part of the operation and thus a different rate they bill it separately.
@dolphinmaster77 even "elective" c-section mostly means, the doctors told you your and your baby's chances of survival / their prospective outcome of your situation and you "elected" to get you and your baby through this healthy. At least here "elective" or "planned" just means that it wasn't an immideate emergency during birth.
When I was in labour, my baby's heartrate dropped and they told me I had to have a c-section because she was getting worse. Like, "sign here, while we are prepping you" - now.
Even that would have been "elective"...
Most c-sections are not what the mother wanted and I don't know a single mum who had one who doesn't feel at least a bit guilty because she wasn't able to give birth "the right way". Even if it was a life-and-death situation.
Don't put even more pressure on mums, please.
I think you misunderstand my statement; it wasn’t very well stated to begin with. I’m stating she had a choice with sarcasm(which doesn’t translate through text so my b) I was a c-section I was upside down in the birth canal so my mom elected to have a c-section in order to maximize my chances of survival. I’m saying she didn’t have a good choice to make she had to either risk her babies life or get major surgery, however where I live when you undergo something you need to undergo to save your life you aren’t saddled with a bill.
I seem to recall seeing this a few months ago. The story was that because there were complications with the birth, the mom/baby required assistance for the skin-skin thing.
So argue that it's dumb all you want, some well trained medical personnel were involved when they wouldn't normally, so the fact that there was a charge isn't unexpected.
