I don’t see anything that should or would be any more interesting to me there, and therefore no harder to concentrate, than looking at a spread sheet. Well- that’s not really fair. There are some spreadsheets I find pretty interesting. But if you’re concentrating on doing your best art- or enjoying making a design- a canvas is more or less a canvas, and generally not what you’re looking at. Painters usually look where they are painting- not at the medium (well- unless it’s a work in negative space perhaps.)
It smells bad and is bloody in a slaughter house too- those folks get through it the same way anyone with an unpleasant job does- head down, focus on the job. There are artists who have painted with blood or feces; worked in rotten meat and so forth. Focus on the mission- the sooner you get it done right, the sooner you’re done at don’t have to worry about having to sort out any screw ups.
I'd be worried about pinching something and pee or poop or even methane coming in my general direction. I mean, yeah... a canvas is a canvas, but if you want to paint in a thermal vent, you might either get really high... or really high and die... or... poisoned... or... poisoned and die.

All that being said... FOOOOOOOOOOR ARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
Most of us were born in labs if you consider the birthing wards of hospitals and incubation areas "labs". I mean... they ARE labs... just nobody calls them that because it sounds fucked up.
